Someone mentioned a solo that was too short. For me, the ultimate WAY too short solo is the outro solo on "Why Must I Plead" on Richard Thompson's "Rumor and Sigh" album. We want MORE, Dammit!!! :D

I’m not here to contribute, but to complain about producers that fade out on the guitar solo. That is all. As you were.

Sorry. Quote didnt' attach. I saw Journey live a couple of times early on in the Steve Perry era. Neil impressed. The first time I didn't really know much about them other than they were guys who had a song or two on the radio. This was summer of '78 and I saw them at a stadium show in Louisville while I was at Ft. Knox for summer camp. How is this for a guitar freaks lineup? Opening acts were Eddie Money, Journey and Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Ted Nugent was the headliner. Unfortunately, that was around the second time that he and Derek had fallen out, so Charlie Huhn had joined the band. No Meatloaf that time around. Second time that I saw them was a double headliner bill at the Miami Jai Alai fronton with Thin Lizzy in July of '79. Yeah. Scott Gorham, Gary Moore and Neil Schon on the same bill. It was as impressive as it sounds on paper. :D My favorite solo and maybe favorite song by Journey may be "Too Late."

I had to look it up again, Hugh Burns according to Wikipedia, but I remember seeing an interview about the solo ten years later and the guitarist didn t look like him.

A was a BIG fan of early Rush music in my youth, but oddly enough, Signals might be my favorite studio album. (All The Word's A Stage is still my all-time fave.) This song has consistently been right at this top of my list of favorite songs by the band.

Generelly its's a blues/rock solo in G. The lick that stands our basically consists of the root note G on the first string (15th fret) followed by the b5 below (Db, 2nd str. 14th fret) then the lower G again (G-string 12th fret). This is repeated in halfsteps (chromatically) down the neck.

This fits the criteria. Dumb song but the solo still holds up:

Yeah, that was kinda what made it cool. You had to listen to see if the DJ was gonna go all in. Kinda like when Heartbreaker came on. If the station played Living Loving Maid, it was like the universe was just as it was supposed to be for a few seconds.
