Steve Vai considered his work with PIL some of his best for many years...

"To this day that's one of the projects I'm most proud of." ~Steve Vai*

When the "CD" (aka, "album" and "cassette") was released it became one of my favorites straight away. It wasn't till years later that I learned that both Steve Vai and Ginger Baker were involved; I hated so-called "classic rock" (and still do for the most part) so I was more than a bit shocked. To this day I consider it one of the most amazing bits of guitar playing ever committed to a recording; right up there with the solo in "Comfortably Numb" (I might hate classic rock but I'm no idiot).

Thanks for pointing that out - I would have heard this song hundreds of times and I guess I never considered that part to be a 'solo' - it is great though.

Not part of a song, but I was mesmerized with Nuno Bettencourt's Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee.

There's just something about this one... I dig the tone, and the way it builds...

    Starting at 2:35

Another solo in the melodic, hummable, Elliot Easton vein:

Eric Gales. This solo was so crazy, I kept picturing him flinging himself around the studio, knocking over amps, and drum sets while doing it. Haha! It's a little 'off the chain'. Solo at 2:35, but there's good stuff all over this track.

Oh, one more- Sweet Little Lisa. Credited to Dave Edmunds, but it's all the guys from Rockpile, and Albert Lee just setting his guitar ON FIRE at the 2 minute mark.

Tim Renwick! He tears it up on this one -- check out the "outro," starting about 3:14:

Don't know if this one qualifies, but this lead knocks me out. I've never heard anything like it anywhere else. Check in around the 2:35 minute mark. Try not to get distracted !!!

Other than knowing he played in the Yardbirds, this is the song that turned me on to Jeff Beck.
