I'm a total hobbyist, in it all for enjoyment and to keep the mind working. Don't get to set up too often but with my small setup I make it work.

I have even less space, the guitars live in a cupboard like yours. Out of sight when not in use is a good thing.

Since my work holidays started last Friday, I have spent the majority of my time in what my wife calls "My Music Room". I kinda threw everything back in the room once the new carpet was laid down. I have not done much to get organized yet.

I have have been really into doing some fun recording with Garage Band lately. It's been very enjoyable. I started out working on brushing up on some of my guitar work for the upcoming NYE gig. Things get carried away and I end up making my own mixes of the songs. For the first time I'm recording some parts with my Boss Katana 50 too. It's a fun versatile amp for home recording. I'm still learning how to use GB, trying to get some half decent sounds from it.

Here's my latest, with a few new pieces of gear. I recent switched to an '80s Yamaha RX-530 receiver to power the monitors. The Yamaha is smaller and more powerful than the old Pioneer, but somehow doesn't have that classic style.

Recording is pretty much all "in the box", but I'm now set up to record guitar amps silently. The latest addition is the H&K Red Box, which provides cabinet simulation and a DI to my Scarlett 2i2. The Red Box even runs off phantom power, so there's one cable's less clutter.

To record silently, I needed a dummy load. Most commercial ones are designed to handle a full 100-watt amp. I don't need all that power handling capacity, so I built my own 8-ohm 20-watt load. It's a mix of reactive and resistive loads. I built it into the housing from an old Allen-Bradley KF2 serial communications interface, a bit of obsolete '80s tech that was a big part of my day job career back in the day.

I'm using a MOTU 4pre audio interface into a 2012 quad core i7 Mac Mini (16 gigs of ram, 2T SSD). Monitors are Focal Alpha 50s. M-Audio O2 midi controller. Nothing really special as far a mics go, SM57, 55SH (Elvis mic), Sennheiser E609. Audio Tech M40x headphones. I use Logic X and the free GarageBand.

New custom racks arriving Tuesday, stained to match the desk. I had the rack rails inset 1/8" so that the rack faces sit flush.

Racks arrived last night, starting to get them in place. Great work done on the racks, can't speak highly enough about them. The guy did a great job matching the stain to my desk from just pictures.

And test fitting of a few pieces of equipment to see how I want to rearrange everything. I will likely need to rethink cable runs...again...lol

    IMG_4290.JPG

I am really happy with the rack rails being inset 1/8" so that the equipment faces sit flush with the wood sides. Really nice looking.

Hmmm, my little alcove seems to lack square footage and a ton of gadgets I can barely identify...Mrs has asked if we should add a room---I tell her when we add to the garage ;) .
