Thinking of buying one...preferably mechanical. What are you all using? What to see what's out there. Not interested in Chinese made or digital. Want to get something nice. Getting serious about practice habits this year. Let me dig your click boxes!

image.jpg I’ve had this one since I was born. It’s never failed me. It doesn’t need a power supply or burn through batteries.

I've had one since just like this since franz metronome.jpg about 1975. Still works great. I never could get the wind up kind to beat evenly (had to be perfectly level and even then it never really nailed it). I still use it but when I don't want to drive others in the house nuts with the 'click, click, click, I just use headphones and a free app on my phone.

IMG_20210306_223052.jpg I too wanted a mechanical metronome. It works just fine, but in reality, the digital one is far more useful. I know exactly what BPM it's set at so can easily track progress. It can count quavers, semi quavers and triplets which is incredibly useful for practicing faster parts to make sure I'm perfectly in time.

Never had much use for a metronome or a click-track.

I'll use the Beat Buddy drum machine pedal when working on song ideas, or practicing when the drummer can't make it.

    :(:(

+1 on the DB-90 Dr. Beat. I've used metronomes of all kinds & even have an old Franz in the closet. This is intended for drummers and I've heard some drumlines practice with these.

The thing I like about it that Dr. Beat gives you beat patterns of all kinds in addition to a traditional click. Playing to a beat is much more useful to a since it helps you work on your rhythmic feel instead of just giving you a pulse. It's more like practicing with a drummer. That way you can play to a shuffle or a back beat instead of a dry click on one.

Yes, Soundbrenner is an excellent metronome! My physical metronome/tuner has sat in a drawer ever since I found this app.

Geez, you Brits even talk about music funny! :D Figured I knew what you meant, but had to look it up to be sure. Now I have another piece of mostly useless knowledge lodged in my brain. Not to worry, it has plenty of company.

FWIW, I have an old wooden one much like yours, but it also doesn't get that much use.

Yes...my iPhone app offers similar options. Honestly, that's probably what I'll stick with. I just went down a rabbit hole today looking at a bunch and thought I'd see what everyone has. My app also lets me accentuate different parts of the beat so I can practice different grooves or work on my sense of swing. Really far more versatile and probably far more accurate than the wind-up pendulum kind.
