I'm about to have MJT do one for me and I want to see different combinations of necks (maple or rosewood) and pickguard colors to see what I like best.

    Thanks

    Gudday Andrew,
I wasn't sure of what that red was like and I google images "Dakota Red
telecaster" and there are quite a few pics of different combinations.
IMHO rosewood fretboard and white binding is sweet. Blood red!! This not mine I found it was in a gallery on TDPRI.

I had a mid 1990s Custom Shop Strat in Dakota Red with gold hardware. I ended up selling it as the neck was a bit fat for me, but it was certainly a great looking guitar - MUCH nicer than Fiesta Red. I don't understand why so many people like Fiesta (Hank Marvin's fault, I guess), nor why Fender so rarely use Dakota.

Here's a few pics of the one I had.

Thanks guys! I'm definitely leaning towards the rosewood. The binding looks pretty good too and I hadn't even considered that.

On the right is Darren Riley playing a '61 Dakota red Esquire. It sold a couple weeks later for (now hear this) $31,000!
I'm on the left. The guy on harp is my son Nick who's just returned from Iraq at the time. It was a joyous "Welcome Home" jam.

The Mark Knopfler Strat is supposed to be available only in Hot Rod red, but a few early models left the factory in Dakota by mistake, including mine.

Here's my Kirn in Dakota Red with a black pickguard. I was inspired by the FCS '51 Nocaster in Dakota Red :D

Just ordered a lightly relic'd dakota red body and rosewood neck from Mark Jenny. I also order a distressed tele hardware kit from Callaham and some Fralin pups. Once I get it assembled I'm going to ship it off to McVay for G and B benders. I'll post pics when it's all done.

Now...if I can just figure out how to pay for it all. I blame TDPRI fpr my addiction!!

Thanks for your input gentlemen! You never let me down.
