    Back in about 2003 or 2004 there was a white paper that exposed a DLL command in Excel that gave someone the ability to run any other program by calling the command and the application you wanted to run. Excel did not even have to be opened, just resident on the computer for the command to be accessed. Less than a week after the white paper was published Microsoft sent a patch out to disable the command. Excel is a very powerful tool in the hands of someone who knows how to work with it.
