The price is more than fair & they don't come up for sale very often. I say get it! If you don't, you'll regret it.

Don’t buy it! That’s a rip off. Just tell me where it is and I’ll take it from there. :D

Yeah - The are nice guitars. Unique neck and unique pickups and people that have them don't sell them that often. Is it the greatest Tele in the world - maybe depending - but its a good one so if you jve on the neck and the sound fits in what you are doing go for it.

This is one of those models where you wont lose money if the love fades after a while...

I paid more than that for mine recently and it didn't have the original pickguard. But the pickups sound great. It's a very nice guitar.

Is the price negotiable? You won’t see one for Bubba’s $450, but maybe $750-$850?

Thanks for the input everyone. I appreciate it. I think I’ll likely pull the trigger on it, maybe see if the seller will budge a bit on the price. Seems to be a decent buy though. This will be my first tele (long time LP player, with a few strats under my belt) so I’m stoked to give it a proper spin in my rig

Btw, I edited my OP to include the seller’s description

If you check Reverb you can see the sales of these for the last couple of years. While it might have been possible to pick one up for a better price a year ago, this year's sales all seem to north of $1k. Even if these are 'listed' rather than 'sold' prices (not sure which they really use), buying there would add shipping and sales tax (to the shipping too!). In any deal it's reasonable haggle but if the guitar speaks to you, I'd not worry about saving a few bucks on what is already a decent price.

Here's the Blue Book Valuation on that MIM Muddy Waters Signature Tele.

Granted, things are going higher post-covid, and people on Reverb seem to be fetching a lot higher than the Blue Book value lately.

$900 might not be all that bad, for a Mint Condition one.

    ;)

Damn, almost a grand for a used MIM Tele?

Rarity based value is collector item, but if you gotta have the Muddy model and they are rare I guess you gotta compete with collectors.

Yesterday I followed an auction of a Catalibread DLS that's $189 new and $139 used, but it sold for $81.

    I'm getting the feeling that:
Finally the gear shortage is passing.
Finally people can get out more so are not shopping as surrogate fun.
Sellers are still asking gear shortage prices but will learn soon enough that the crazy high prices are going to come down and all the gear we bought is coming up, for sale.

Definitely a discrepancy between the recent Reverb pricing and the Blue Book (I'd not checked one of those in years). How accurate are these data sets? I wanted to post a shot like Sparky2's of the Reverb prices but am not sure how to embed one here so here's a link instead: https://reverb.com/p/fender-muddy-waters-telecaster-candy-apple-red. Scroll down and you see the price trend, and you can follow the data back several years when prices seem more in line with the BB.

Without pics how do we know you’re not about to buy a Bo Diddly plank? Are you sure it’s a Muddy Waters?

I'd buy it. But, I'd have to put another pickguard on it. I can't stand all those extra screws.
