There’s so much roadkill around here, they’re always well fed, year round.
Unfortunately, I’ve hit 3 deer since moving to Wimberley.
All does, all this time of year, the rut.
I love animals, and hate seeing them hurt.
I also gig all I can, so I’m always on the lookout for Bambi.

When I was stationed in Gitmo, they were one of only four animals we ever saw. Being from Central Texas, though, they made me feel less homesick. :)

    1. Turkey Vultures
    2. Banana Rats (GIANT "rats"...look 'em up)
    3. Green Iguanas
    4. Guinea Fowl

Not exactly a zoologically diverse place.

yes, he's probably from the finance company. Don't leave the house or the sofa might not be there when you get back.

Just don't let them take a shine to your place. It ain't good good when they do. I'm sure you've seen a house, or two, where they decided the roof was their residence. That ain't whitewash all over the shingles.

I was gonna call HairClub for Men today. Maybe I'll hold off. That's quite an upside.

We don’t have vultures where I live except in mortuaries and they’re less interested in picking bones than pockets.

And they get downright peed off if a car interrupts their meal. Wouldn't wanna fight one for dinner.

Yup. The only places in the world I've had to worry about deer were Texas and West Virginia.

They're horribly overpopulated here. My sister (who lives in rural Mountain West!) was excited to hear she could see deer here. She wanted a pic of a buck. I told her she can visit and take as many home with her as she wants. Don't see as many bucks, but every morning there's 3-5 moms and bambis strolling the street, grazing in my yard, etc... I did see a good size buck last week trail biking at the local park. I thought about snapping a pic, but I was too busy cussing and bleeding. That's pretty much par for the course on most bike rides for me nowadays. But I digress. I've been lucky not to have hit any since living here. But had to slam on the brakes more times than I care to count. It's bad enough on the back roads. But the critters are constantly trying to cross the interstate. I'll take more buzzards and less deer. At least the roadkill would get picked quicker. Man, deer make a MESS on the roads. Yuck.

I have a theory that deer are, in part, overpopulated here because there's no longer any sport in killing them. Fish in a barrel, as it were.

I try not to let things like death, disease, destruction, despair and desolation worry me.

Those vultures can rip my eyes out now and gorge on my brains anytime they want, it won't matter much in the long run.

I think it is a sign when they stop circling and land.....and then look at you.

I have whole herd living on and around my property. Fortunately, there is not that much traffic up here to kill them. Unfortunately, on the main highway here through town, we have all those "Ricky Racecar" tourists from out of town who hit the curves at full speed plowing into deer, bears, and whatever else they can run over. Their cars end up totaled and the leave collateral damage on the highways. As far as hunting deer or any other wildlife, I wouldn't touch that meat with a ten foot pole. Too many diseases now and I don't eat red meat anyway. I let mother nature do her thing for the population of those animals. They don't bother me.

And ticks. They carry ticks. We already have a huge tick problem. Deer make it worse. Cute and fun to watch them in the morning (they are graceful and gentle animals. Until cornered, of course). But no touchy. I just keep my car away from them as best I can.

Oh yeah. And have to have a very high fence around any gardens.

We have some that are almost semi-tame, but they still won't let you get within 20 feet of them before they bounce off to somewhere else. Right now, we have this big drought thing going on and I feel sorry for them so I am cutting them a little slack. Same with the bears. They cruise through here just about every night looking for food, but will head out once they realize there is nothing here for them, they move on.

My dogs don't like anything else on the property and they will usually run them all of. The only thing I worry about are the "big kitties" which we call around here. They are pretty stealth, but they are merciless on your pets.
