I did go out of my way to say one hand/other hand, but I'll bite.

The subject matter of the Bonnie Raitt song is relevant and timely, but rewarding a legacy artist drawing from an old bag of tricks at the detriment of newer artists creating much fresher material smacks of exclusion and an old way of doing things. Both certainly can be--and I would argue, are--true. How's that?
I now understand your logic even I disagree with your rationale. It sounds ageist to me and more based on who they are vs the art itself.

I understand. I think I was trying to say that this Grammy was a little out of touch perhaps. I honestly didn’t love the song.

Just an opinion. I dig her never the less.

Take away vocal enhancers, other crutches, and stage show fluff from them.
Yes,no real talent. They're only popular because they appeal to the (old moniker) bubble-gum crowd.
This is not accurate or productive. It’s ignorance and narrow mindedness

Yup

Could be you're a troll.

Or a curmudgeon.

Or both!

I just listened to the song for the first time. It's a great song, a great example of story telling and song craft. cheers to Bonnie. She doesn't write many songs, but when she does, they're killer.

I think I get little shades of Cheryl Crow accidental borrow in parts. [strong enough to be my man]

SERIOUSLY???

Well unknown is maybe a bit of an exaggeration. I remember she was fairly well known between 1989-1994 for both singing and slide guitar. She has been out of the limelight for almost 30 years now. Perhaps unknown today by the younger generation compared to Beyonce, Adele and Taylor Swift.

The Grammys are not at all relevant to me personally. I’m glad Bonnie struck a blow for more substantive music and good to see Molly Tuttle get recognized, but the bottom line is that the masses aren’t all that concerned with artistry and haven’t been for decades. Don’t confuse the ability to sell out stadiums and sell masses of products as talent or musical importance. I’m ok with Taylor Swift and Adele but it’s just not genuine enough for me. Just my opinion. Not looking for a fight. Excuse me but I have to turn my Merle Haggard LP over. Finishing my dinner dishes.

BRs award is equivalent to the Oscars, where a living legend is awarded because of their body of work or the Academy feels they are deserving. Whether they are relevant to that particular year
has got nothing to do with it.
I think it was a bit of a dead cat bounce. She's a great musician, and has been rewarded greatly for it.

Best song of the year? No.
I'm surprised she didn't win Best New Artist instead.
I was amazed at the sudden accolades for Nick Of Time, which was basically the same record she'd been making since 1971 - great singing, great playing, great choice of material. They finally caught on to her?

Not looking for confrontation. We are talking about “Popular” music. I’ve never been concerned with awards shows. My credentials aren’t too important. Simply my opinion. Have a good evening.
