BRs award is equivalent to the Oscars, where a living legend is awarded because of their body of work or the Academy feels they are deserving. Whether they are relevant to that particular year
has got nothing to do with it.

I think anyone who posts their reaction to this award being given to Bonnie Raitt should at least listen to the song. If you are not affected by the song or at least the lyrics, then have your heart examined.

Was it the right song award category? I'm not convinced that it was. Was she deserving of recognition? Yes in my opinion.

Sorry y’all. Flame away. This was a huge miss by the academy and your kids will be talking about this moment the exact same way we all talk about the whole Jethro Tull “metal” episode.

Raitt is a living legend. But she’s not been impactful on music in any way in over 30 years. May as well have given the award to Paul McCartney or Rod Stewart. Nothing Bonnie Raitt published on her “Just Like That” album is memorable or has any particular shaping on the year in music.

She’s a legend. But this was not deserved. Clean miss.

Should have given her a lifetime achievement award. But not song of the year. That was ridiculous.
I don't think it's about being "impactful" it's about a performance.
Bonnie Raitt has a kickass voice that few can touch.

Those tin ears served me quite well in 45 years of representing numerous professional musicians. And what about your ears???

You disparage AW with your bloviated assessment & yet you claim to have " represented numerous professional musicians ". If you can't discern the talent AW had, quite frankly, you come off sounding like the Dick Rowe of our era. 😞

Everyone in this world, whether they are a professional in the music industry or not, is entitled to their personal opinion of an artist's talent. My opinion is that there are thousands of unknown singers in this world whose talents exceeded those of Amy Winehouse. I never said that she wasn't talented. My personal belief is that she was over-rated. I don't like Amy Winehouse and you do. So what?

Oh, and I got paid very well for those 45 years of representing musicians. Please tell us about your history.

Bonnie is as boring as can be - and that song was pretty lame. That said, y'all are taking offense about someone at "JOE" calling her unknown. Hook, line, sinker. Catching Boomers is easy.

I was reminded of Beck winning the award for best album a few years back.

Kanye West showed up to protest it, but quickly retreated again. When asked about it later, West said that he actually had no idea what Beck's album sounded like, therefore he had no grounds to protest.

But Beck wasn't going to let him off that easily...

I am not "taking offense" at all. I'm merely pointing out the writers' apparent ignorance.

Unknown news rag shows its lack of knowledge……more like it.
And that reminds me of an interview Paul Simon did during the "Hearts and bones" era. The woman interviewing him asked him straight up if he thought the album would have sold better if he hadn't deleted Art Garfunkel's vocals.

You can see Simon tense up, go wide-eyed before turning away with a very loud exasperated sigh, so very upset at that question.

The site is basically Maxim for Irish guys. Pretty sure Bonnie is not on their playlist. And, you started this thread with "SERIOUSLY???" so you sound pretty offended for someone not offended.
