It seems like award shows these days have to do something controversial to stay relevant and make headlines. They're just trying to give people something to talk about.
The awards are too diverse now for it to ever make sense. They were each probably more worthy for some reason. I think in the end, the Academy probably awards based on which demographic they are trying to attract. Bonnie Raitt fans are probably losing interest in the Grammys lately.

I see what you did there. They're just trying to give people something to talk about.
Are you actually suggesting Taylor Swift or Beyoncé don’t have talent? The one with REAL talent won.
But an unknown?!? Not surprising.
I dunno man. I’m not gonna really go down this rabbit hole too much. She’s a legend for sure.OK, I'll bite. Please explain exactly why Bonnie Raitt is "not relevant."
You're onto something here. Nothing that Amy Winehouse ever did could be described as "classic," in my opinion. I never could understand her popularity. She never did anything that thousands of unknown vocalists could not have done as well or better. She had her 15 minutes of fame.Isn't it possible that the article was attempting humor?
The most telling line in the article: "Raitt's victory marked the first time a song penned by a solo songwriter had been victorious since the classic Rehab from the late Amy Winehouse won in 2008."
I should live that long…Ummm... she's already got one (2022). Can you get two lifetime achievement awards?
Yup. I don’t give a rat’s about the Grammys, but the award is Song of the Year, not Relevance of the Year.People who focus on whether Bonnie Raitt is "relevant" today are missing the point of the award. THE SONG is what is important here.
You mean this?!?!Then I think Kris Kristofferson came out and called us a bunch of a-holios, and of course he was right.
Yeah, I liked it. Might have even brought a manly tear to my eye. Congrats, Bonnie.I just listened to the song. Nice. If someone else had written and sung it, it might have sound calculated and schmaltzy. But she pulls it off. She brings a John Prine-like authenticity to it. And, of course, tasteful understated lead lines. Speaking of folkies, she has a little Lucinda Williams vibe in her vox too.
