An old friend turned me on to Shelly Manne by giving me a record. I had heard of him a drummer, West Coast guy. West Coast musicians were Gerry Mulligan, Brubeck, Freddie Hubbard, etc. This era of Jazz was epic.

    Brilliant drummer!
I loved the Barney Kessel Poll Winners albums with Ray Brown on bass.

Very nice! Reminds me of Miles’ bop musings :) I remember, listening to jazz radio out of Cal State Long Beach (dj Chuck Niles); he used to plug Shelly’s Manne-Hole, which was a jazz club partly owned by Shelly In Los Angeles back in the day.

One of my favorite jazz drummers is Paul Humpfrey; that guy swings like a madman.

    Ciao,
    Lou

Back in the 60's when I was a teen, I made many trips to Shelly's Manhole, a jazz club in the Hollywood/LosAngeles area. Saw many jazz greats perform there including Grover Washington and Yusef Lateef, as well as Shelly Manne and his Men. Great memories of those shows!

Forgot to mention it's in mono. It's the recording era.
