To those who have access to BBC there's a Shadows 60-year celebration on tonight (01MAY20), it should also be available on iPlayer later. Can't beat a bit of Hank...

My, albeit CCR, Strat's very excited too ... already got that earmarked to watch tonight as opposed to view some other time :)
I've said on tdpri before, in the UK ... there was Joe Brown, Bert Weedon, Hank Marvin ...and then came Clapton, Beck Green etc
btw - welcome to tdpri ...

Knopfler has said many times that Hank was his first hero. Mark even bought a red Strat as soon as he could afford one.

I've read a few folks as diverse as Dave Gilmour and Michael Schenker cite him as an influence.

It was a great documentary. The Shadows really were cool, innovative band. Hank and Bruce came across as really nice, down to earth guys. Cliff Richard was also featured.

No BBC, so I'll have to wait until it "becomes available". ;)

Hank was the first real star, and influenced so many, you can't count them. Bert Weedon got so many playing, plus he played ( often uncredited ) on so many British recordings, he has to be up there with Clem Cattini as the most recorded British 'pop' musicians.

Shortly after Hank came Joe Moretti and Mick Green. The first triumvirate of British guitar heroes was complete ( plus Bert teaching them all :) ) Those three ( plus Bert! ) laid the foundation for the Brits ( and Rory ) that followed.

If you have iPlayer, it's worth hunting down the series presented by Suzy Klein on the role of music in the rise of tyrants 'Tunes for Tyrants : Music and Power with Suzy Klein' Totally different, but a good watch.

    That was worth watching.

Even Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi has cited Hank as a primary influence.

Wow, that was great. It really brought back many memories of my younger days in the UK.

Thanks Zacky......and to any one else who helped us to see this tribute program.

But I don't have a licence, I refuse to buy one to watch one program every couple of years and wouldn't want to get threatening letters from the BBC Licencing Dept. every two weeks for fifteen years...

Good point. I would download what I posted above asap. Sometimes, these videos/programs get "yanked" off of YouTube ;)

Sorry, I don't follow you. Is that an English expression/saying of some kind?
