So true! With a Tele and an SG, you can pretty much do anything! And they also have that certain cool factor of NOT being their more popular siblings (if you're into that sorta thing)!:)

I picked up my first Gibson SG yesterday - a used 2004 Standard.

We all know what they look like so I won't post a bunch of pictures, but here is one to satisfy the 'pics or it didn't happen' rule:

While I was at the store I also managed to place an order for a used Muddy Waters Tele that was available in another location across the country for a great price. It should arrive in a week to ten days.

I picked this up Thursday and it is quite the guitar for the money. The p90 pickups on this and the fat 50's neck make it a keeper for me. It is audibly pleasing with almost every amp that I own.

I am still working on setting it up to my liking. I found it for an open box price at Best Buy.

I had a Gibson SG standard cherry and a worn cherry both USA made guitars but sold them off after I bought this Epiphone SG custom. It's a beauty and a player. The only down side is the headstock is heavier and doesn't balance as well as USA Gibson's. Nice guitars and very light w/lots of tone. You can play them for hours. My SG Pro with a Gretsch tip, a Lollar High wind in the Bridge and a Dimarzio Bluesbucker in the neck. Wired Nash 50's style.....love it.

Recently traded an American Standard Tele for this... A 2014 SG Standard 120th Anniversary. Tuners where swapped out to Gibson Deluxe from the MinEtune. Classic 57 pickups with push pull coil taps. The taps make it really versatile. I like to tap the neck and I can get a really clean tone without too much volume drop switching from and overdriven bridge tone ImageUploadedByTDPRI1431187822.921062.jpg

Coil taps work well. I have an Epi ES339 with them and they make it very handy. I pulled the robe-tuners from my 2008 SG as well.

    knockoff sg?

So, slightly OT here but I'm looking for hive-mind wisdom.

An SG has appeared on a local buy/sell and the seller acknowledges it may be a knock off and p/u's are stamped Epiphone. Pics of headstock & s/n are here - it doesn't look like anything that I'm coming across in google images for Gibson or Epiphone ... Thoughts? Comments?
