    As i mentioned in another thread, ive got a secret agentsitting here awaiting install into my esquire build.
    Cant wait to hear the.results!

    Ive been curios as to if or how much pickguard material or thickness can affect the tone.

    Plastic material should not influence the sound, the distance is the only factor.

    I thought the SA sounded good with major 7th chords, but that was its only strength. Kind of like a Gretsch HiLoTron.

    The tone isn't the problem. The volume is. If you boost the SA (with an overdrive or booster), it's fine, and sounds like a strat neck pickup. But I don't want to step on a pedal every time I switch to the neck pickup. This pickup's strength is making the middle position on a tele sound like the bridge/middle position on a strat, if that's a sound you like.
