How can we attribute human emotion to tone by itself? That's my point. It's confusing. It's environment and personal experiences the create mental and emotional associations. It's also a good 4/4 beat and bassline. Tool does not have sexy tones. A Perfect Circle? Maybe. Deftones? Yes, sexy tones.

Is it sexy only because an attractive member of the opposite sex is involved, or it's a make-out, all night sesh song? Is it having a smooth Smooth Santana/Rob Thomas song that makes 'the ladies dance' or something else? I'm honestly surprised nobody posted any funky songs with a wah wah guitar. Too vulgar? lol.

@hoen - what's sexy is it's about a guy sitting on the Dock.... and he's just cool and relaxed. Listen to the words and he's still there in the evening watching the tide go away. Something in it is just cool, including the whistling at the end. Chicks love it. He's the ideal, content, non -hung- up guy.

I remember putting this on in a moment of intimacy and it being the perfect soundtrack for that particular moment.

But I also used to put on Godspeed! You Black Emperor as a lullaby, so . . .

These days I’m maybe a little more refined and I think that Avalon (Roxy Music) is probably the top of the heap.

PS - Jason Simon from Dead Meadow is David Simon’s (The Wire) nephew. I’ve probably seen Dead Meadow as much as any other band. So fn loud so good.

PPS - yes Jason plays a Tele

Right, but in TDPRI tradition we don't feel a need to actually respond the the content in the original post!

We seem to beat that dead-tone-horse often enough discussing the fact that the common claim that Hendrix or SRV had an instantly recognizable and superior "tone", which keeps being stated while in discussion our more pedantic members clarify that it's phrasing we recognize, not tone.

Many seem to be just posting what they consider sexy guitar phrasing as opposed to tone, but even sexy tunes where the guitar has little impact on the big picture!

I've been thinking about trying to record some tones I think might be "sexy" by themselves with no other component, so I guess just a held note or chord ringing out. Even a chord would add the component of minor or major etc and not be tone alone.
I'm allowing for distortion though, basically all components one would use before applying phrasing.
I don't think there is such a thing as sexy tone, but I haven't quite given up!

Am I really the first to post something by Sade -- c'mon, y'all ain't even trying. The guitar solo starting at 5:30 should be rated XXX . . . this is grown folk sexy music no one under 21 allowed. My wife and I went to that concert and let's just say that Sade definitely lit a spark that evening

We need a double-blind test, with a player trying varied tones with several members of the opposite (or same) sex in the room to determine what tone is more sexy than others. Fill out a confidential questionnaire. No phrasing. Just pure tone. In fact, a machine that plucks the strings would ensure there is no bias from the player. Completely remove the guitar from any human element, to isolate said sexy tone. That’s it. That’s the way to find any ‘tone’, if it exists at all. If so, tone will reveal itself by it’s ‘sexy’ alone.

:D

For the fun, here’s another Lo Desert sexy tone.

Alright everybody, I risked my Tele-rep on this racy thread, but I’m gonna go ahead and post it. Please beware, it gets graphic.
