I think you are talking about “SEW-AH DIYYYY-VAH!

I used to work with a kid who had worked a summer with the a Columbia, MO sewer district. He told this story about this one troublesome manhole under a four-way intersection where they were always clearing clogs, and how as the new guy he always had to go down in the hole while the old timers sat around the edge, looking down in at him while eating their sandwiches and offering advice and suggestions with crumbs falling out of their mouths. Being Missouri in the summer, it was already hot and humid, so...yuck

Anyway he said one time just as he was waist deep in this thing, thinking “how can those guys sit up there eating with this SMELL?” He realized that one of his feet was wet. The toe of one of his chest waders had sprung a leak and his boot was filling up with raw sewage. And it was still morning, with a long day ahead.
Sweet Dio reference.

You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh, what's becoming of me?
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes, but you know he's clean
Oh, don't you see what I mean?

You've been down too long in the fecality
Oh, what's that sloshing on me?
Ride the floater
You can see canned corn, but you think it's clean
Oh, don't you smell what I mean?

The shark jumping show for me was a couple of years ago with the one where these 2 idiots had different insects/arachnids/snakes and such bite/sting them to see if they could take the pain. I just googled it: "Kings of Pain" . I can't imagine anything more stupid to watch.
That show was a Bag of Stupid.
I saw maybe 5 minutes of it. Never watched it again.
I did like Forged in Fire.

watched a couple of seasons of pimple popper.. enjoyed it!

will check this out! I had a friend who got a DUI and his sentence included having to volunteer at the waste management plant. He described the 'solids' and some other stuff... he wasn't 'glad' he had to work there, but he learned a lot and I found it interesting too.

Those dirty jobs shows are cool. it helps remind folks that things don't 'just happen'

I used to work in a chemical plant outside of Chicago and I had plumbers in constantly working on our sewers. Down inside the catch basins, the sanitary water runs across the bottom in a shallow stream. When a tampon would float by they called it a "Chicago whitefish".

I think we've run out of ideas for shows worth watching. What's next? Turd Eaters?
I know a puppy who will audition for that last one.
Also I like watching stuff that shows different jobs that I haven't done before or how things are made and how somebody came up with the machines to do certain jobs.

I did like Mike Rowe's show Dirty Jobs. There was some pretty gross stuff on there. I guess some people like gross. It's a good thing there are people who do the dirty work, like you say. We would all be in a lot of trouble if somebody didn't do it.

I don't know if I 'like gross' but in many moments in my life I have had real life experiences with things that were difficult and dirty jobs... no big deal. Heck, I've fixed sewage pipes and redone old septic systems, buried dead and decayed animals (and burnt them too) I've helped mama cows with the birth process, mucked stalls, I once had a dog suddenly get violent diarrhea and have a relative infant begin playing with it then the dog got frustrated and tramped it all over the vehicle while I drove down the interstate in a snow storm.

It was awful and we laughed like crazy even at the time. It is just 'stuff'.

I once had to clean up after a person committed suicide and that was among the most difficult experiences of my life. But, it had to be done. I do feel a certain sort of responsibility to clean up and to help others clean up and get things in better shape.... I always took the Mike Rowe show to be like that... kind of 'dang, this is rough, but I'm glad it gets done.'

If you have seen the city come and clean up a homeless encampment, it is astonishing how much of a mess things are without regular trash pickup and indoor plumbing. I remember visiting my grandfather on his farm. No trash pickup there, no indoor plumbing and his place was SPOTLESS. It smelled of Purex (his favorite brand) and he burned his trash every other day.

His place was neat as a pin. It wasn't until middle adulthood that I both understood and respected the work and commitment a guy has to have to do that.

I work in the Civil Engineering field and deal with storm & sanitary sewers constantly. I would actually like to see this!
Wastewater was my job in the late 80s and 90s. Designing treatment plants and networks.
I've had the pleasure of being in the Victorian sewers in Glasgow and London when I worked with a consultant Civil Engineering company. They are fascinating places.

I'd love to get access to a tour of Paris' and Rome's networks.

I do believe Sewer Divers is filmed in Flushing Meadows. For the theme song, they are considering using Steely Dan's 'Dirty Work'.

There was a sign in our office when I worked in the water and sewerage department with the local government...

People may think our job is about dealing with Sht and Pss but it's our Bread and Butter.
