I'm still upset that they cancelled St. Elsewhere and Thirty Something...

As with many things, no-one is holding a gun to your head to make you pay for Prime. If you don't like the terms of service walk away. There's no point ranting about it.

No one's mad at Prime or Netflix... it's the TV companies refusing to play ball.

Taking shows off Prime is not going to make me start giving a TV network a monthly fee after I cancelled my cable to avoid having to pay for content I don't watch.

There is always something else to watch...

Then the recording industry would still be a viable revenue stream for musicians. They would actually get paid. It used to be like that for recording musicians but, as you say, the digital age made it too easy to make digital copies. And we go along with it because we don't want to pay more.

TV and movies are different. I worked with a guy who started out as an actor and was still a member of AFTRA/SAG. He did some bit parts in TV shows and a movie or two. Every time an old Adam 12 came on and he had a 10 second appearance as the angry neighbor or something,he would get a residual payment. The checks kept coming in after years had passed and he prolly still collects on those parts he had in the 70's.

That would have literally zero impact on me. Call me a dinosaur if you want, but I still prefer purchasing and owning the actual product, even if it's in the form of a digital download. I already own more than enough vinyl, CDs, and digital files that I could cease buying altogether and still get plenty of variety. Not that that will happen, because I'm always finding 'new' things I like.
I'll use YouTube or Amazon Music to do a quick browse on a new (to me) artist or album, but if I like it enough, I'm going to buy it
My vehicle purchase in December came with a free trial of Sirius XM. Never even once bothered with it, because the car also accepts a flash drive input. Now if I could just figure out how to tell Sirius to stop wasting their time and money mailing me an offer to sign up every freakin' week...

I cut the cord over a decade ago. You wouldn't believe how incredulous the customer service rep was when I called to sign up for just broadband internet. "but I can offer you this bundle". Nope, don't care, only want internet. "so, you don't want TV at all?" Nope, don't care, only want internet.

"And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer "More! More! More!" yoh"

best idea i heard yet today. it wouldn't take too long to make all those companies collectively scream uncle. 4 weeks tops. and it would be a help promote literacy.

    it's a nice dream
