I seems to me the those Les Paul Studio's get more than their share of this. I don't get it. I can't see how somebody thinks that look good? Whatever!

I don’t care either way about artificial relic wear. But sometimes the wear is most intense where you’d never touch the instrument. Like big sanding wear around the jack. And the neck is usually left flawless. A toured and daily played guitar will have little dings from headstock to button and nearly no marks other than a few Jean rivet dings on the backside. And even the thinnest nitro doesn’t age in a perfectly straight diagonal on the upper bout. I agree this looks ridiculously fake and overdone. But at least I give some points for an equal measure of “wear” on the neck. But hard pass for me.

There’s relic’d and there’s unnatural, butt ugly, fake relic. I have a 46 yr old Telecaster that would be considered mint next to those butcher jobs.

The whole 'relic' concept is a strange one to me.

A clerk in a local store once suggested a relicer (relic'er? abuser?) relic my then-new '05 Les Paul. Reset the neck, age the finish, etc., etc., all for just a few thousand dollars. The whole reason I spent nearly all of my savings on that particular Les Paul was because it was perfect.

    It still looks like new.

It's art if you like it
    trash if you don't

I see abstract is informing the modern guitar community ,
HIPSTER I think not. just bored the common accepted visions of beauty, maybe

There's something odd & unnatural looking to a poly relic'd guitar. They dont wear like that. Ever.

I try to take care of my gear. I want my gear to look nice. Deliberately making guitars look damaged is incomprehensible to me.
