Seems some of these could also be self-depreciating.
Clapton covered it as well, but I love the give and take between Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden on this...
Charlie Starr/Blackberry Smoke make a living from such songs...
Rite!, when were the Mats NOT deprecating? lol
Tried to find a good clip of Slim's "Ain't Exactly Good", and found one, but it's rough (surprise) so I settled for Tommy's "All this way for nothing"
might as well throw in some I Don't Cares - "King of America"
Giant Sand - "Yer Ropes" . not sure if it's about a lack of success, but it's not for tryin'
Jets to Brazil - "Your Xrays have just come back and we think we know what your problem is"
Love "My Old Friend, the Blues"! Made me want to listen to the original:
Glad you thought of it!
Think of it this way, you could either be successful or be us.
Slim Chance & the Can'i Hardly Playboys - Billy Joe Shaver
Of course, I knew it was a Steve Earle song, but that cover by BBS came to mind as I was tracking down the YT videos for the two BBS originals. And this is one of those cases where I like the cover even better than the original. YMMV.
Got to go for a bit of Spider Jiving .... AFL with Eric ...
Great stuff all this!
