Stopped at the record store today on the way home from a dad date with my daughter. One of my gets was a used Best Of LP of The Sir Douglass Quintet. That prompted me to search old pics of Sahm. This one is certainly interesting. I have always love Doug Sahm, but I was ignorant of his “Little Doug Sahm” days. What a cool dude.

Hicks was a seriously talented guy. He was famously difficult to work with. One of the last combos he had was called The Badges. It was after a show where the entire band walked out on him. He shrugged it off saying he could always find other musicians to work with. When asked about the name The Badges, he said, Because I don' need no steenkin' badges. He had a regular listed phone number - in the Yellow Pages. He was listed under "Bar Fixtures".

Kind of a strange dude, but a gifted artist for sure.
Much missed.

Agreed

Really? Never heard of them. Saw him with the Acoustic Warriors, Bayside Jazz, the Christmas Jug Band and the reincarnated Hot Licks many times. He was a serious musician, a talented song writer and had a great sense of humor. He was a badass dude!
His song introductions on "Where's the Money" are brilliance itself.
My favorite--
"You may think it's easy being up here, playing and singing.
It's not, it's not easy.
Thank you."

Genius.
