Music aside, my delta in opinions of these two men is as wide as can be. Didn't know Hank had ever spoken to the killer. From his site:

That's a wild story! It's hard to fathom giving up a prized guitar--not to mention abandoning your band and losing income--to catch a TV show. Then again, that was in the days when you missed a show, you missed it! There was no plethora of options for catching it later as there is now...

Does anybody else remember a feature in Rolling Stone Magazine right around that same time about guitar stars and the instruments they were identified with? It was kind of a photo essay with the stars describing their chosen instrument. The two that I remember are Albert King and Bloomfield, Bloomfield obviously paired up with that Les Paul. My memory of the way he talked about it belies the idea that he considered it a total wreck and deemed it no great loss. As I recall, he waxed on about how he couldn't part with it, that it was practically part of himself. The phrase "pitted out" sticks in my mind as part of his description, so he did acknowledge that it was beat to hell, but mainly to illustrate how he had poured his blood and guts into it & through it. That article must've run sometime in late '73 or during '74, not long before he ended up abandoning the guitar. I place it in that time period because I started playing guitar in September 1973 and by the time I saw that article I was very familiar with what Les Pauls and Flying Vs were. After reading the account of how he left that Les Paul in Vancouver, I was hoping to find the “stars & their guitars” article posted online but it doesn’t turn up. Anybody here have it by chance?
