Randy Bachman of BTO also had a heavily modified Strat with the flipped jack port.

Yeah, I saw an interview with him saying a doctor said playing guitar was killing his back and that is when he switched from Les Pauls to strats with humbuckers, IIRC.

I saw an article in Guitar Player magazine, circa 1975, and he explained the mods he did to his Strat.
I used to read that magazine cover to cover from 1973 to the mid nineties.
Randy plays all kinds of guitars these days.
I‘ve seen him play almost everything but PRS.

Lots of us flipped the jack in the 70s, it was the cool thing to do whether it needed it or not. I think it started with a Guitar Player interview of somebody worth emulating at the time!

Now, I needed to do it because I used those big fat plugs with the silencers.

I recall seeing this promotional video (or something similar) back in ~1974. I was 10 years old and a bit terrified of Randy Bachman, maybe because he was a big guy and looked powerful. There was a lot of mystique to me around him and the band, mainly because I never saw any of his interviews. I would discover Undun (1969) which he wrote, when I was in college (1983) and I became a major Guess Who fan. I learned later, that Randy played a Gretsch G6120, which was similar to Gretsch hollow bodies that I own/owned.
