I'm so sorry to hear that Pepper is at the end of his days. This is the hardest thing about having pets, but I think all the positives do outweigh the sorrow at the end. I'm glad Pepper found you and your wife. It seems like a true win/win situation. They don't call you TheGoodTexan for nothing.

We now use a mobile hospice vet for end of life care for our pets. It is so much better than having to go to a veterinarian's office, for both the animal and the family.

I'm sending my positive thoughts your way. I wish you peace in your hearts during this difficult time.

We said goodbye to our little girl (a beagle) a long time ago and we just couldn't bring ourselves to get another. We both knew we would never find another like her. I'm so sorry to hear that you are going to have to say goodbye to Pepper. I'm sure he will be in doggie Heaven.

What a beautiful dog, Tex! Every time I read a post like this I'm always happy that the dog and his people had each other at all. My heart is with you, GT. It's never easy...

Sorry about Pepper, man. We just lost our Kallie the other day. She was kind of a nut, but she was very sweet, and we will miss her. She was getting old, was old when we got her, but she'd seemed very healthy until just a few weeks ago.

Hang in there. My goofy lab is 10 going on 11 and is definitely stumbling through the normal motions of age, had him since he was a lil' tiny pup.

Man I hate to hear that GT. I've had to do that once too many times in my life.
I get teared up just thinking about it.
    All the best to you!

I just FaceTimed with my wife and Pepper. She finally got him to eat by pouring a little beef broth over his food. And he drank a bowl of water after that. This is a small success after not leaving his bed for more than 24 hours.

It’s odd though, because last night she ordered a pizza, and tried to offer him a pepperoni, and she said it just laid on his bed and he wouldn’t eat it, or anything else.

But hey, if he can make it through the next couple of days... I just want to be there for him at the very end.

I just saw this GT. I’m so sorry. Pepper reminds me of our black Lab Jena who was a ball of fire for most of her life. She flushed a big tom turkey just three weeks before I had to take her on her last road trip. Ripped a hole in my heart when I found out our big galoot was ailing.

Its hard to put things in words these days when they sometimes seem to fly unbidden all around us, but I wish you guys the best with Pepper.

I'm so very sorry. It is so hard to lose a family member you love. Just remember that Pepper loves you as much, or more, than you love Pepper, and knows that you would only do what is good for your family. I've lost lots of 'family members' over the years. They're still all in my heart, as Pepper will be in yours, and that's how we keep them with us. In our memory. My sincere condolences.

I'm so sorry. They wrap their little paws round our hearts, don't they.

It's never easy but you gave him a good life and he loves you. You can't ask for more.
