Today I learned that dry fitting plates and pickguards without their switches, pots, screws, and connections attached is a recipe for failure. I am also learning that gathering parts from different models is for sure going to require gross and fine tuning. I have a Japanese Fender guard, after market pickup selector plate and tone circuitswitch plate, and a MIM fender control plate. I needed to trim the pickguard to get the switch plate and control plate flush, all was good and I was happy with the fit. Then I mounted and wired the tone circuit switches and found in order to fit it in the cavity it was overlapping the the pick guard by about 3/8". Ok no biggie, trim the guard with the template you already have and since it is indexed over a bit now and does not line up nicely with the edge of the pickguard ease that a bit an recut the bevel. As Timmy Failure says, mistakes were made. I was lucky in that it is only going to cost me a pickguard. While trimming the guard I momentarily forgot which way to feed it into the router bit and in an instant there was a small chip beyond the cut line. The template did not save me. Oh well. I think I will make a full custom template and just get some pearloid stock, enough for multiple attempts. I wonder exactly which pickguard they use on the Marr Jag. If anyone knows please speak up!
