I'd been wanting and older Epiphone Sheraton II for a VERY long time.

I've looked locally at pawnshops, CL,and FB Marketplace for many years, and had never run into any older one.

I've read a thread posted here a while back that said the Pre-'96 Sheraton II's were the ones to buy.

My luck changed this past Sunday, when I went to one of my usual rounds pawnshop, and to my surprise they had a Sheraton II hanging on the wall.

I pulled it off the wall, and looked for the serial number inside the f-hole,and on the back of the headstock.

There wasn't one, and then I noticed the neck was a 5 piece neck.

It was THEN I realized I might be holding a very late '89 or a '90/'91 Sheraton.

I did a quick search on my phone, and to my surprise, I was an '89,'90,or '91 .

They had it priced for $500 with changed out tuners, Stop Bar Tailpiece, and a neck pickup with missing balance string to string adjustment screws.

With both the bridge and tailpiece being pretty tarnished, and above issues, I decided to ask for a hefty discount.

I decided to check for pricing on sheratons at all GC's in Texas, and the happened to be a newer one at my local GC in really good stock shape for $369.

I showed the manager the price of the Sheraton II's price at the local GC, and convinced him I'd REALLY rather buy this one if the gave me a really good price.

I offered $200 and he countered with $277, and I agreed to the price.

I put it on layaway for $30, and I'll pick it up in 2 weeks after a guitar I have on FB Marketplace sells.

So after taking pics, and doing some research, I've decided it's either a '90 or '91.

The upgraded tuners and Stop Bar Tailpiece are both Schaller products.

The tuners are M6 mini tuners , and the Stop Bar Tailpiece is a 492 Quick Change Tailpiece.

Both the tuners and Tailpiece are about a $220-$250 upgrade.

I'm even thinking that the pickups might be humbucker upgrades.

Anyway here's some pics I took of it at the pawnshop.

Technically those are “vintage guitars” now since that era is a known better vintage than current production.

With the case? For $277, that's a great deal.

    Thanks guys.

I started another thread here in the pickups area and got a few replys.

Is there anybody here in this thread who might entertain the idea that the pickups are Gibson or other USA humbuckers?

I might be reaching with this one, but there are several things that lead to believe the pickups installed in this guitar aren't stock.

    1) the pickup height adjustment screws on either side of the pickups are slotted head instead of phillips head.

Some people in other threads have suggested that the pickups are the stock Korean pickups and the phillips have been
    changed to slotted.

The thing is, all slotted head screws are USA Imperial machined screws, where as the phillips screws used in the stock Korean pickups are millimeter.

You could not use the USA Imperial slotted screws with the stock Korean pickups.

    2) Almost all internet pics I've seen of these older Sheraton guitars with stock Korean humbuckers, have the gold plating rubbed almost completely off the pickups.

The plating on THIS guitar has very little of the plating rubbed off compared to stock Korean humbuckers, and looks more tarnished than anything else.

The plating wear on these pickups is consistent with the Gold plating wear on my 1980 Gibson Explorer.

Now that this thread has a little traction, maybe I'll get some thoughts from the pickup experienced members.

What are your thoughts on what I've posted above?
