I very much agree that Maleness is a repressed paradigm in today's (first) world.

But I'm seeing the pendulum swing back the other way lately. All the beards being grown is clearly a response to third-wave feminism.

TBH, I think men are sick and tired of being portrayed as bumbling idiots ruled by strong, decisive women (name me a single sitcom where the husband/father is not a fool).

Take masculinity back fellas! Cast of your metrosexual tendencies!

And watch some Girl Writes What? on Youtube. It's a revelation.

The current beard popularity is due to hipsters, who, I claim, are not the sort to respond to "third-wave feminism", whatever that is. The beards were ironic, like everything else a hipster does.

    I agree.

Wearing a beard, for me, is to enjoy the perverse irony of being mistaken for a hipster. It keeps life poppin', and that's fun. :D

I thought the current untrimmed beard thing was an attempt to appear to like being a sitcom style bumbling idiot.

that chick in the youtube clip a few posts up is very astute, and right on the money with a lot of things.

Beards? I have mine because it's winter, but I'll cop reaction to third-wave feminism, sure, I have no qualms with that

My youngest son made a joke a few weeks back, paraphrasing here, but it was along the lines of how a male driver ran over a woman pedestrian, and who's fault was it? His, because he was driving in the kitchen

I'm sure the woman in that video had some very astute points but my ADD cut it off at around two minutes.

I think it may have been the Duck Dynasty millionaire dorks that first turned me off to slob beards. All the recent survival, auto/truck/hot rod reality shows have got me up to here with looking at them. Do they mean something? Yes, I think they mean "Look at me! I can grow a slob beard"

    You know it.

I've been taking more time to trim the beard, these last 4-5 years for very evident reasons.

This right on the money. I also think that her being a woman she can say these things and get away with it but in the current first world culture if it were a man saying these things allegations of misogyny and male chauvinism would be thrown at him.

I could just see a freshman college student storming off to the dean saying I was creating hostile classroom environment if I were to say these things but if it were a female prof. it would be welcomed enlightened scholarship by the same student.

I always try to hang out with my bros once a week. It's so important especially when all your friends start to get married and have kids.

I feel like I need one right about now.
Do I have to take a number?

....and how do we know if we are giving a bro hug or receiving one?
