light year ...distance travelled by light in an earth year
many of the stars we see in the night sky wont even be there at all now...or in the same place if they are...some could take a million years before supernova flash reaches earth
sunlight...93 million miles...and its still warm..get a tub of beansprouts from chinese takeaway on our street corner and theyre cold by the time you get home...2 min walk for me
if there is water there may be intelligent life...these people that say that have obviously never been to Boosbeck

If an asteroid...as it whizzes past earth on its way back towards the outer solar system...could we land on it and get a speedboost to mars...or elsewhere?

Where Star Trek is concerned, the units they use for measurement are the least of my science-based complaints.

It's lucky that the non-Earthlings we see on Star Trek can always speak English. I'm still waiting for ones that can only communicate in Glaswegian or Aleut.
And how do alien slimy slug invaders build and navigate spaceships without fingers...

My kid and I were watching an episode of The Clone Wars today and one of the clone soldiers said that a location was a "a few clicks away". Apparently kilometers exist in that universe too?

    Not to mention direction!
Can't they just say Over Yonder or, I'm headed due South or, go to up that Nebula and turn Left?
