The one spirit (bourbon) that I will buy and enjoy, on special occasions.

One of my favorites too. A little harder to find; at least it was back when I was trying lots of malts.

I love a good beer.......some Tequila on occasion.....but Whiskey? Fire water......no thanks. My friends used to try to get me to drink Jack's when I was younger. Instant barf fest and I was sorry the next day.

A pal of mine used to sell valves to all the distilleries. He swore Grouse was mostly Bunnahabhain or perhaps it was that most Bunnahabhain goes into Grouse. Haven't seen him for over 20 years so I'm a bit fuzzy on that one.

If you want a Famous Grouse in an Aberdeen pub ask for "a low flier". If you want a double ask for a "bang-bang" :)

That might be delicious, but I'll never know because I'll never go near it.

On a forum where the mere sight of six bridge saddles is offensive to some, this preference should be understandable.

You are judging all whiskey by a Jack Daniels ruler? That’s like swearing off on a Maserati because you’ve driven a Yugo.

I switched from Scotch to Irish and some small batch stuff around me, especially the ryes. One thing I've never warmed up to is corn whiskey, which is a shame for a guy living in an ocean of corn. Ditto the weird hospital gauze smell of scotches like Laphroiag. Best real Scotch I've had in my limited experience was a 15 year old Macallan. There are lots that taste pretty good to me, but a little goes a long way. And the older you get, the quicker it'll put you to sleep.

in guitar terms, when you first learn an open G chord with the added D.... it sounds awesome... the first time you try the 7#9 chord... it has that hospital gauze smell... but, when you contextualize it with just a splash of room temperature water or with two true cubes of ice... it opens up and breathes and becomes purple haze.

apologies for lame joke. My sentence (self imposed) will be to procure a bottle and try it with my friends and family and report back.

Johnny Walker Black Label and never look back. Quality and flavor are superb, with a price that is sensible! It's the blend that combines the best of over a dozen single malts, with a nice peaty quality tipping the hat to Islay.

As mentioned earlier, Johnny Walker Blue Label is SUBLIME, but at around $200 a bottle, most people just aren't going to "go there". Their Black Label is awesome and very reasonably priced.

Laophroig is a wonderful Islay (very peaty)... a good place to go once you're accustomed to Black Label and want to dig deeper into Islay.

If you want to go to the Islands, go to the Isle of Skye for the Talisker.

You can taste the ocean... MMmmmmm!
Always with two cubes of ice, or a splash of water to open up “the nose”.
As many have mentioned, a good start is with the Irish! Jameson or Bushmills! A lovely sip! Again, a couple of ice cubes and/or a splash of water-

Remember! Stay hydrated!! The body uses water to metabolize and eliminate alcohol!!!
