Why do schematics have INPUT on the LEFT if pedals have INPUT on the RIGHT?

Or at least at the bottom? Just asking...It makes me wonder. I'm more visual, so if there is an electronics rule for this, it would be cool to know.

Earliest tape delay had it on the right:

Earliest tremolo had it on the bottom:

Very old vintage big Muff on the right:

    Hmmmm??????

And of course modern pedals follow this for the most part:

EXCEPT for one noticeably ODD looking pedal, which I don't think should count

It is like reading English. Left to right.

Mesa Boogie schematics have the input on the right.

You build the circuit on your perf board left to right, like the drawing, then it get's mounted in the back of the pedal so it flips when you look at the front of the pedal!

Electronic schematics are usually created with the signal flow from left to right, the same way one would read a page of text in most western languages. They only indicate logical signal flow, not the physical locations of the jacks when the pedal is constructed.

As to why the input is on the right side of most pedals, I have no idea...

Most guitarists are right-handed so the cable in the right side of the pedal means it doesn't cross over it.

Schematics? Maybe as mentioned - read left to right?

Besides, when you turn the pedal upside down to work on it, it's now aligned to the schematic.

So your cable doesn't cross in front of you. Helps keep it out of the way, in theory at least.

P.S. Sorry my delayed response now seems lame, redundant and so Boomer.

Probably because that's how Boss started doing it in the 70s. They came up with a common enclosure for their entire pedal line using the same basic layout. Previous to that most pedals were one off designs even from the same manufacturer. Same reason the standard ac adapter for guitar effects is centre negative. Makes no sense but that's what Boss did.
