They really don't know. I have ordered in stock, still in production items and they didn't have any. I will not buy anything from GC unless it's AT my local GC. Which there actually are many.

Apparently, GC, like many others, don't particularly feel the need to cater to the endless neediness of the tire-kickers and looky-loos among us.

I have more than once paid for a used item from GC online and been informed later that the item had already been sold.

On the other hand, I've gotten two ridiculously great deals on guitars from them courtesy of careless mistakes. This happens when you have sales staff who don't know gear and can't be bothered to look something up.

Somebody in accounting knows the exact inventory but the customer service rep answering emails doesn't. Typical in a company that's spending more on debt service than decent software/hardware to integrate accounting and CRM systems (my current headache at work, but I also get to add in manufacturing data).

I've learned the agonizingly hard way several times not to trust Home Depot's online inventory, even though I REALLY WANT TO every time they have that one thing in stock I need that I can't get anywhere local, and their website says they have 4 in aisle 14 bay 006 at my store!!

" I see a guitar in your future. it's kind of hazy what kind. it may even be a hollow body- I just can't tell. the image seems to be floating out in space, swimming and undulating there just out of reach- trying to make itself known.....
well, the Spirits have signed off for now. maybe you come back tomorrow and we try again??"

They may not make detailed inventory information available to people who don't need it. Being able to get stock levels from a national chain's customer service department would make it easy fir a manufacturer to find out how competing products are selling.

Thomann does exactly that. And, their customer service has always been top notch -- at least from my experience. I doubt their disclosure is 100%, but compared to GC/MF, they give the consumer more info. One particular thing I have noticed and greatly appreciate is that their product descriptions are often much more consistent and complete. Why have any secrets? If a seller knows they aren't measuring up, maybe they'll try harder..

Sorry, GC. I would like to support you, but Thomann has figured out how to do it better..

Just a quick screen shot for reference.

If it wasn't that purple Strat, you better hurry and buy it. I've heard they're going out of business any second now.
