I've been putting partscasters together for years. My gigging guitars are partscasters. I put partscasters together to get a guitar with specs that aren't available from Fender. I don't see the benefit of putting a partscaster together that's simply a Fender copy.

    YMMV ..

Some people feel that assembling their own instrument gives them a better understanding and sense of connectedness with their instrument, some people enjoy the hands-on learning experience, some feel an increased sense of intimacy with an instrument that they put together themselves, rather than just buying off-the-rack.

I've never seen a maple body Fender Telecaster with O.C.Duff pickups and Rutters compensated saddles.
If they were made, I'm guessing that they're rare enough that if somebody wanted one, their best bet would be to put a partscaster together. YMMV.

I'll bet that's a baller with those Duff pickups! That's my favorite set he makes. Still haven't got my hands on a set of my own, but I love every demo I've heard of them. Owen's a great guy too.

At one point years ago I ended up with a 60's Jaguar neck. I had the brilliant idea to have a local guy, a cool retired Air Force and Post Office guy, an amateur luthier really in his retirement, build a Strat body out of maple to put together with that neck. This was before the days of Warmoth. He did a great job on it but it was so tonally bright that it was beyond usable. I eventually ended up trading it off...

That puts you and I in the 2% of forum members who acknowledge the role of wood in the voice of the instrument.
