I went to see Dave Mason Saturday night at Charleston Music Hall. First of all, if you ever get a chance to go to this venue I think you'll really enjoy it. There's not a bad seat in the house. This was my first concert in about 4 years. Dave is 77 years old, so I wanted to see him while he's still around. He was in good form with a very capable band. He opened with "Only You Know and I Know" then played several Traffic tunes. He even did a few where he was not present in the original recording. Since Steve Winwood and Dave are the only original members, it was good to hear this wonderful music live. He did a rollicking version of "Feelin' Alright" to end the show which had the crowd out of their seats. His encore was "All Along the Watchtower". It was a packed house. I didn't see any vacant seats.

Yes, it was an older crowd with a few younger people mixed in. It's nice to see the dinosaurs out on the town on Saturday night. It gave me a good feeling that you are never too old to have fun and enjoy some great music. Dave has quite a pedigree in that he has written timeless songs and played with some of the best musicians in the business. His album "Alone Together" is definitely a must have. I picked up a copy on vinyl the other day.

Dave is sporting the bald head which he's had for years. He played a red Strat with maple neck and humbucker bridge all night. He and the rhythm guitarist used Fender Tweed Deluxe amps. Keyboard, bass and drums rounded out the band. Not a lot of gear, just straight ahead normal equipment. He's touring and I recommend the show.

I saw him a few years ago at a 200-seat venue. Good show. He came out wearing gym shorts and tube socks. Definitely had an old man thing going on. Best part of his show for me was seeing his bass player, Gerald Johnson (think Steve Miller’s “The Joker”). So fun to watch.

Eta: I looked online and it does not appear Johnson is still playing bass for Dave Mason.

I've seen him quite a few times.

One of my early "acoustic" influences and we used to do some of his great material.

A formidable guitarist and wonderful singer!

Always a good show!!!

imo.

I've seen Dave many times over the years. The best years for me was with Mike Finnegen, Jim Krueger, and Gerald Johnson. But later shows were equally great! I think my favorite song of his is Let It Go, Let It Flow, and he really rocks it in concert.

During the 'period' a few years ago, he came up with this collaboration with some amazing artists and I really love this one!

Very cool, I agree Dave is brilliant!
I wore out my Alone Together album when I was a kid.

Saw him do an encore with Traffic when Rebop was in the band. And I saw him solo in the 70's with Krieger. Surely took more than was a fav of mine.

I saw him in 1975, he was playing a series of Firebirds that absolutely refused to stay in tune. Swapped them out every song.

Sounds like a great show, and you did a bang-up of a fantastic review!

One of the stand out shows for me was at the old Tampa Theater years ago, Mark Stein of Vanilla Fudge fame was touring with Dave at the time. Quite a rousing version of You Keep Me Hanging On brought down the house!

I found Headkeeper as an inexpensive “cutout” (hole punched in it, apparently to flag it as a markdown from a distributor) 8-track in the early ‘70s. I’ve always loved that album. It was eventually released on CD and I have that now.

I was at a Pier in Coco beach, by the Kennedy space center. They had an old flyer of Dave Mason when he appeared their solo. Must have been assume to see him over the water.
