another Saturday night and what am i doing? TV, TDPRI. what would i like to be doing? watching TV and surfing TDPRI.

but it used to be different! once many a moon ago, when i was a wee lad of 12 or so, i knew that one day i would play every Saturday night to the max! i think i thought every night was going to be American Graffiti, but Saturday even more so. Adventures of every type, vehicular, romantic, playing groovy music for groovy chicks, other things unmentionable, an unending having a ball.

and i did have enough of those crazy adventures and paid various prices for some of them, and now, i am very content to sit on the couch, eat some cookies, watch TV and look at the TDPRI. it's just the way it is.

why are you surfing TDPRI and not out having wild adventures?

I’m not having wild adventures because I learned a while ago that the wild lifestyle and I are not conducive

I.E 10 years ago I’d be out doing all sorts of things that were not good for me

I can’t say it won’t happen again but I try to keep stuff at bay

And I’ve mostly been a solitary person, I never got the point of going to bars and such to be around people

Same as you, except lasagna instead of cookies. Same age, same excuses ...

I may get pretty wild in a little while. Thinking about going to the gym.

Alcohol doesn't have the same effect as it had at age 18. If it did I would be in prison or dead.

I've slowed down a LOT. Walmart is about as exciting as I'm prepared for now.

We were more of a Friday night out in town, crew..... weekends were often spent as far away from town/work life as we could get... along the coast surfing..

you never knew what was going on Sat nights in town or wherever you ended up going.... unless it was a friends party that night...

Something tells me that the next 6 months or so will bring enough wild adventures for everyone.

In my 20's, I lived in a cramped apartment with a crap TV, crap sound system and empty fridge. Internet wasn't a thing. I didn't know how to cook. I had a terrible job. Going out was a necessity for my mental and spiritual well being.

Now I have a nice place to live. I look forward to whipping up something good to eat, play one of my guitars, or firing up the home theatre, stream movies or TV shows or just blasting some music. Plus, I could do this in my sweat pants and t-shirt. I could just be in my underwear... or I could be without my underwear.

So, am I really old or just now I'm now able to afford comfort?
(OK, a bit of column A and a bit of column B.)

there are people who want to ban fun. make no mistake. these people exist and they are actively seeking to sabotage and undermine the enterprise and production of fun-making

I feel like I am a cat with nine lives. I know that I'm damn lucky that I survived all of those young adult years and don't take any of it for granted. At 41, I decided to live a second life out in the forest for a huge change from my old life in Silicon Valley. I honestly never thought I would make it to 65, but here I am. Everything now is icing on the cake.

    I have to recuperate sometime, don't I?

There's no TV, phone or Internet at The Cabin. I am so sore and beat up from working and hiking, and riding mountain bikes, I barely have strength to play guitar.

So we backtrack to Suburban Tennessee for a week and find out what's the world been up to. World is still crazy. Time to go back underground again pretty soon.

Don't forget: having fun requires stamina. And effort. But the way I see it, someone has to do it.

Then: waking up somewhere unexpected on a Sunday and slinking around town trying to figure out who was mad at me
Now: waking up somewhere familiar with someone who chose to share her life with me(and trying to figure out why she's mad at me ;))

I’ve never experienced a “normal” Saturday night.
Mine are almost always spent somewhere people gather to drink, dance, and socialize.
    I ain’t complaining, I’m grateful.
Maybe when I get (even) older.
