at 8:00 p.m. there was another earthquake today, it didn't make my building shake as hard nor as long as the earthquake on 01/14 in the a.m. which was 3.4 on the scale I'm watching to see if these are one offs or part of a series. creepy-monsters-sticky-notes-drawings-don-kenn-9.jpg

4.5 in Aromas (near Watsonville) which is probably 20 or 30 miles from here. Pretty good shaker (I'm in the South Bay). San Andreas fault runs about 1/2 mile from here.

I was still living there in '89 when the one that collapsed the Bay Bridge and Nimitz freeway in Oakland happened. I had just left work in Palo Alto and hadn't gotten on 101 to go home to Redwood City yet. My car started rolling and I knew it had to be an earthquake, because I couldn't have had 4 flat tires. It didn't feel that severe to me, and I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home (I didn't take the freeway, I took the back roads), and saw the damage in SF, Santa Cruz, and the East Bay.

Yeah that one wrecked my house. It was not condemned, which was lucky as it took awhile to get the money together to rebuild it.

I have a 1930's Tudor in Palo Alto. If a major quake hits it will damage my basement for sure. Not looking forward to that.

No, I had just left work at my job as a burn-in technician at a test lab just off of 101 and San Antonio.

A guy I went to college with faked his own death in ‘89, supposedly under the pancaked freeway.

The rest of the story is weird. I saw him on Haight Street 10 years later. Tried to say Hi. Even though I got his attention by caalling his name, he insisted it wasn’t him, to my face. “I get that a lot.”

Directory assistance had a number for him, no answer. Another try 20 minutes later - Disconnected.

At a certain point, you figure, leave well enough alone.

Ny brother and his wife visited me in San Francisco years ago. We went to Muir Woods and hiked the loop trail, which goes half a mile or a mile up a creek in the bottom of a long, straight, deep V-shaped canyon. We got to the turn-around and looked back down the valley, and I offhandedly shared the interesting geological fact that we were standing in the bottom of the San Andreas Fault.

    They both turned white.

    First time in California.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t feel a darn thing here in Alameda.

That was when I worked at G-K in Campbell. I clearly remember being tipped back in my chair reading Guitar Player when it happened. 5:04 PM October 17th. On the "Far Side Cartoon" calendar I had, the next day was shown as "out of order" with all the typical characters strewn all over the place.

Good friend is over by Corralitos.
