I'm really digging the sheer musicality of the playing on Hawaii (1961). Anyone else respect these cats?

In spite of all the Sleepwalk covers by everyone in the world, still nothing touches their version IMO.

I never get tired of listening to them. And I've yet to find another version of Sleepwalk I liked better.

Sleep Walk's the spiritual cousin of Angel Baby by Rosie and the Originals ~~~ we need slow, peaceful ones amidst the rock, and the roll!

Santo doesn't slide into or slide off of notes excessively, so I think that means I'm agreeing with SecretSquirrel post #3.

I think where covers of Sleep Walk miss out is - Johnny's guitar tone is a dull bubble, and that's a good thing for framing the tone of the slide.
But many cover versions lose the "stillness" feeling, and there's too much treble everywhere.

btw thanks, John Frets, for the link to "Hawaii"

edited to correct spelling of Sleep Walk :)
