I am looking at a Melody Maker Special - everbody has them for 699 - SamAsh has them for 429 - ?

Never dealt with them before. Have done Sweetwater and MF with good experience.

What say you on SamAsh?

I've bought 2 G + Ls in store, and bought a whole passel of Squier 51s both my mail and in store.

The "mood" of the stores is a bit depressing, but everything worked out fine.

I'd have to agree on the above. I've never bought anything online from them, but the store down on 48th St. always has kind of a depressing vibe to it. They're a solid retailer though and occasionally have some good deals.

Those are cool guitars.Nice larger Gibson headstock, good finish(not that worn look),2 soap bar P-90s. Better made guitars than the current Melodymaker guitars that sell for over 500 dollars.

There are a couple of Sam Ash stores in my area. Nice stores and they've always been great to deal with.

I bought my Marshall Class 5 and a 12 String Yamaha Acoustic from them online. I've bought other stuff from them online. Solid company. They sometimes stuff a Sam Ash t-shirt in with your stuff. They price match.

I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

Sam Ash is a family owned business that has been selling instruments for a LONG time. I've gotten some great deals from them, both new and used, they have offered much better trade in prices than GC, and I have never had an issue returning a purchase.

I would be 100% confident in any dealings with Sam Ash.

Sam Ash is the largest family owned chain of music stores in the world, and the second largest instrument dealer (behind Guitar Center) in US with 45 stores.

They have a good reputation and have been around for almost 90 years, so I'd say you would be safe buying from them.

Funny you mentioned SamAsh. I realized today that I "Used" to go into their store (here in Los Angeles,Hollywood). I wondered why I never even consider them when I'm in the market for gear. Every Time I go into the store I feel very very very UNwelcomed. They have limited stock and "hostile" employees. It's gotten soo bad that even if the Hollywood GuitarCenter has the same gear I'll go to GC even if it's more money. The employees at GC seem "High" but they are a lot friendlier.:D

Yeah but Sam Ash Hollywood had a couple guitars I wanted, so I bit my lip and just played along. Before I could get the deal I knew could be had, I had to let the salesman demonstrate to me, he was a "better" player than I was. Same schtick, over a year apart, different salesman. Bad business sense.

Since they make room for an extensive sheet music section along with concert band and orchestra instruments there is less floor space for guitars and amps. The middle end instruments are locked away more so then at a Guitar Center, I guess it saves on the pre-sale wear and tear but then you must deal with the staff to try out stuff. my only complaint there is when one guy asked me who where my influences and then went jazz snob on me because Norman Brown didn't rank in his world view. I would expect that on a music message board, not from a salesman in a music store
