safe solvent to remove masking tape residue from nitro and Tru-oil?

    I had a dodgy roll of 'low-tack' :rolleyes: tape that has left gum on a Tru-oil neck. Is there a safe solvent or other method for removing it that won't damage the finish. Is naptha safe?

    The stuff I use to get rid of glue left by tape and as a general wipe is Bestine rubber cement thinner. Works great and doesn't mess with the finish at all! Smells like naptha but has other stuff in it. Never had a problem on any finish!

    Naphtha, or here in the UK lighter fluid.;)

    Test on scrap as with all things finish related.

    Yes, naphtha, but just a warning - not all lighter fluid is naphtha! They've been sneaking in some newer chemicals so check the can's ingredient list before using.

    Yep. Ronsonol is still naphtha, at least to date.

    I've had good results with Deflecto Tape-Away, from the local office supply store.

    I use Goo Gone followed by soapy water. I haven"t found any thing yet that it won't lift off.

    I use WD-40 for all of my sticky residue removal tasks !! It's great. ;)
