well i dded a front pickup to my MIJ 62 RI esquire, but before ya'll freak out on me what i did was clip the wires and removed the whole wiring deal so when i want to go back to original i solder like four wires, when i went for the switch all they had was a 5 way strat switch so i got it and put it in, with all the way forward was front 3 mids were both and back of course was the back pup ...editorjuno from the telemodders site gave me a schematic for the 5 way and i finally got it in last night ,so far i dig it front 3 selections are like a normal tele then 4 is both pups out of phase and back is font pup with maybe a 10% tone cut or something like that ...anybody else run this setup i know you can do it with a super switch but i think this is a cool mod ...here's a pic of what she looks like now ...the pearloid pickguard really set it off i think ......

Glad you like it...

...and if anyone else who wants a gander at the diagram, just e-mail <editor@juno.com> and I'll send you a .JPG file of it. It's got to be the simplest Tele circuit ever -- easier to wire up than a stock Tele imo!

i didn't realize you were here too, shoulda known  thanks again ...question, if i took out the cap would it just make the 5th and 1st position the same, it seems that the bridge is brighter now also, just wondering

The bridge-only position (3) is the same as a stock Tele, so there's no reason for it to be "brighter" -- the cap is switched totally out of the circuit unless you're in position 4 or position 5. Replacing the cap with a piece of wire will make position 4 ("half out of phase") very weak -- imo unusable - but it would make positions 1 and 5 sound the same as per your guess. Just removing the cap would kill positions 4 and 5 completely.

other 5-way options

John Atchley has a Guitarnuts site with many wiring mods including a T-riffic mod
http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/triffic/index.php

and this site has a bunch
http://www.geocities.jp/dgb_studio/index_e.htm

I tried the T-riffic with the allparts switch on my thinline, and found the outcome to be a little different than his table (he said that was mentioned in the text but I guess I missed it). I found the out of phase to be pretty thin, and I wanted 1, 3, and 5 to be the stock positions, so I reworked to the following:

1 - neck only
2 - neck + bridge parallel with "Jerry Donahue" RC network
3 - regular neck + bridge parallel
4 - neck + bridge series (and in phase)
5 - bridge only

I think the most versatile way to deal with the tone issue is to get one of the pots that 'bypasses' to full open. Then you get it on any position you want.

I also found the t-riff cap scheme added more for the neck/middle positions, and I wanted less on the neck pup because its cover already takes away a lot of the highs, so I changed the cap relationship having the neck position cap lug go to the tone cap, and jumping the second to the other lugs (the second one in series reduces the effective cap value).

Two points on how mine turned out:
The series next to the bridge is good, because it is a bit louder compared to all but the bridge, like a fatter lead position.
Also, not too much difference between the stock and JD parallels. It may be the component values and PUPs need to match according to some relationship (a guess on my part).

Enjoy!

I don't know how much longer Guitar Nuts is going to be around. They got hacked about the same time as TDPRI and John is not going to put the board back up. He said he may not pay to host the Guitar Nuts website anymore either. Just a heads up, there is a group of people who have set up another disucssion board and they are trying to rescue Guitar Nuts, so we'll see...

Hey, teledude66, your posts would be easier to read if you would use some proper English capitalization and punctuation. When your sentences run together like they do, it's hard to distinguish where one sentence stops and another begins. It takes twice as long to read. Thanks.

i admit there are some spelling errors in my first post and i don't capitalize a lot, the errors i attribute to being hasty in my post, for this i am sorry, but i am not going to worry about this "i" versus this "I".....and for the second post i was speaking directly to editorjuno seeing as he was the next poster and if you read from my post to his i thought it had some continuity ...oops .... i didn't realize i was being graded
