Also work with The Chieftans, Little Village, on and on. I don't think he ever was looking for a niche. He just couldn't sit still.

I think you're right, apparently while I wasn't looking he became aa sort of general purpose ambassador of music, and seems to be having a wonderful time doing it. I want to thank you guys for reminding me of him; a few moments on You Tube turned up some great videos (loved his solo take on "Sloppy Drunk") ; also a fine performance of Statesboro Blues with Taj Mahal, that mostly served to remind me what a fantastic singer that Mahal Man could be, but a nice slide solo from Ry.

I believe he is classified under "World Music" - whatever that is .

It is a term that it's difficult to get close to, but mainly seems to just mean music from anywhere but the USofA- Cooder has done a lot of work with Cuban and African musicians, and probably others I don't know, and that would be classed as "World Music" by most record dealers, at any rate. He's also stayed active in blues and other American popular music- probably best to describe him as just a guy that likes music.

I can see your house from here.
Mambo Sinuendo, with Manuel Galban, is full of great songs and sounds.

Galban played a Telecaster with massive strings.

Great stuff there. I have "My Name is Buddy" , bought a few years ago, and then recently came across "Chavez Ravine". I bought the vinyl version. What a story. That is pretty well buried, aside from Cooder's liner notes and history buffs who want to dig deeper. Nearly as deep as the Tulsa massacre in 1921. Maybe he'll do a story on that one?

Don't buy "Live in San Francisco". 2013, I think.

It just isn't IMO up to some of his records from earlier on.

Jim Dickinson was also involved in a lot of Ry Cooder's film score work.
