Great song cycle from a great album. Always good to have a shot of Ry.
A friend who has been married eight times recommended this tune.
Good lord, I can't decide if he's the ultimate romantic or the ultimate moron.
I need to get into Ry Cooder. I've heard about him for 30 years, but never dug in.
Check out Mambo Sinuendo instrumental album. Ry with a Cuban tele player
Side project for Ry, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe, Jim Keltner
Wish I could have seen these guys when they were doing shows
My friend is an exceedingly charming man but, well, doesn't always make good decisions. I've met several of his ex-wives and he pulls waaaay above his weight. He is nothing much to look at but he married some stunningly beautiful women. (Not all at the same time, of course.)
I discovered Ry mostly by accident ~1972 when I saw him at Liberty Hall in Houston.
He is the real deal.
Sample some of his records on youtube. He has a bunch of good CDs he has put out over the years and is still making great music as a geezer.
Here's another good tune.
lotta debate about who's playing what slide parts on that one, since Lindley's involved. Saw them with Joaquin at Newport '89, either just before or just after richard thompson playing solo. michele shocked (with ToP horns) and the roches were the earlier acts.
needless to say, a double dose of ry/lindley & thompson was mind re-calibrating
My favorite Ry:
I can't be sure but I believe 'I think its gonna work out fine' pre-date the team up with Lindley. The record dates to ~1979.
Actually, I don't know what year they started playing together, soooo... you may be right.
Edit: According to google, they first collaborated in 1980 on 'The Long Riders,' another excellent CD.
I'd never heard of the term "chicken skin" when I first listened to this LP... could only speculate as to what it was?....... crispy music?..
we call that "Goose bumps" down here..... but the feeling is the same...
I get it now, Ry.....
my lp sez otherwise
Yup they call it chicken skin here in Hawaii.
"Bop Until You Drop" was the first album that was recorded digitally....
Lots of great music on that one....
Wow..forgot about that one. I think I did that in a cover band back then.
Chicken skin music is one of my favourite albums. But the Rhythm on this track is just my fave beat ever.
