Some years ago i built my dream guitar . It was my vision of perfection at the time a 55-56 blonde hardtail strat , with a nocaster type neck . That was back when the idea of a Relic guitar was giving me fever .

I bought some Nitrocellulose lacquer form Mohawk , i could have bought the instrument or piano grade but i opted for a regular standard type hoping it would relic better over time since its more fragile .

Lets see if i made a good choice , 7 years of heavy use later.

Looks just about right, and that is real wear. Love it!

Can you tell us what products you used and your finishing process?

I have a guitar that I used their String Instrument Lacquer on as a clear coat over some water based dye. It looks great, but hasn't done any aging yet.

First sourcing the supplies is harder in Canada . Check for a Richelieu .

You need E-Z vinyl sealer #m1028000 . If someone want's really authentic Fender finish the sealer could tinted yellow to look like fullerplast .

The clear is #M1020420 and toner #M1010323 . I usually do one or two coats before putting the toner because if anything bad happens its easier to remove or sand especially if you do a busrt .

On a burst i put clear on every color and i keep the orange for last that way you can remove the over spray without touching it by keeping it last and it helps blend everything.

    Good luck !

    Awesome thanks.
There is a Mohawk dealer in Vancouver.

the M1000007 toner is an amber... Is that what gave you the whitish blonde color? It looks very accurate to the late 50s Tele and Mary Kay color. Great job

One thing i have noticed is that the cracks are not random , they are all length wise . Is this something only happening on real cracking ?

That's genuine road-wear. It's a good look on that instrument. Thanks for sharing the images!
