I think Trev knows what he is talking about, BUT Fiji has traditionally been played by amateurs.
I think I'll shut up now and let Trev be the judge.
Australia got a good/reasonable draw but I still think the Kiwis will win or South Africa- they've always been great.

Low tier team increased their level during this decade.

Australia had the Folau controverse, And a lack of talent behind.

O'Connor Hodge Beale don't compete with Folau's level.

Folau was the most valuable player for Waratahs in 2014/2015, and one of the best full back in the World.

I don't have any doubt about Pocock and Hooper but lock and front row are an historic Wallabies weakness and they can be really crucial in close game.

Please don’t judge Australians by Tonetele.....He is probably the least representative Australian on TDPRI.

The France Argentina game was great.

Argentina, the French played ;)... good game...

re Fijians.... I'm sure you'll find many players getting paid rather well to play top grade club rugby in other countries..I'd hate to be in any team that plays against them... and most play for the love of the game not the money.. ;)

I like to watch international contests.. whatever the sport.... to see how they play the game....

every country has their fav "local" game.... not all of them are played by other countries at the same level to step it up into a world game.... :)

Tuisova was really good in Toulon before Savea came in.

We've got a lot of fijian here.

Nakaitaci even became a French rugby player.

I don't remember where I read it, but apparently the AFL league guys host social events for players and models. Because married guys keep their minds on their jobs. And tall mothers make for tall sons.

Tall players aren't as good grovelling for the ball on the ground as "short stumpy" players are..... horses for courses...rugby is played on the ground most of the time...although they do kick a lot, players need to have many skills...

why should any game be dependent on how tall players have to be, to be competitive?..... ;)

I guess with a lot of our population coming from UK/ Mediterranean countries where tall and thin people aren't so common, they make good rugby players...:)

Ireland Can be such an under rated team.

    VI nations hierarchy is :

    England - Ireland
    Wales - France
    Scotland
    Italy

    And it's pretty clear.

I've seen nothing to concern our Kiwi friends, so far.

Ireland are Europe's most consistent team and it showed, this morning.
South Africa's intensity will worry most teams.
England didn't use all the gears- but avoided Australia's mistakes, by keeping things tight.
France were as enigmatic as usual.
Argentina are predictable- but sometimes, you can't stop it.

Interested to see how Wales play..... don't look past them.

Gatland might be the best NZ coach along with Vern Cotter.

But they're not as good as 2012-2013 they were so much inconsistant against France in VI nations (or it might je France that's inconsistant in VI nations), if there's a quarter final France Wales there might be a possibility for us to go through the semi final which would be a shame and would confort Bernard Laporte in his power and French rugby default.

Yep. We were there. Excellent game. The fans from both countries we’re poetically, dramatically, vocally enthusiastic.

Now I have to avoid the rest of this thread, in case I see something - playing catch up now on yesterday’s (Sunday’s) games.

I watched the Fiji - Uruguay game yesterday and it was a real thriller... with an unexpected result... good running rugby and last ditch defense to save tries by both sides...

Uruguay has played Fiji 3 times in minor lead up tourniments over the last few years and have been thrashed every time...
Yesterday they led most of the game, went try for try with Fiji, they were quick on the mistakes to make ground.. and hold on to win by 1 point 30-29....

great for their morale, being a new team of unrated players......:)

England play USA tonight.... that'll be interesting.........

Watching this now, cos I’m playing catch up.

Only six minutes in. I judiciously didn’t read past your first sentence and deleted most of it in this reply, obscuring it with my thumb. :)

We saw the Russia vs Samoa game on Tuesday. That was an exciting game. The kids got to chat with Michael Alaalatoa afterwards, prop both for Samoa and the Super Rugby team Crusaders, which was nice.

Interesting, as the tournament progresses, to see how the teams use their squads and try to look after their players. England made wholesale changes today- but I know some coaches like to maintain continuity, or rely on a small number of key individuals, to make their strategy work.
