Did anyone else get an email from reverb saying their security has been compromised? Just checking, because they want me to change my password, and the first step to do that is give them my old password.

Yep, got it today. In part, it says
"As a general reminder, we recommend that you change your Reverb password on a regular basis. If you’d like to update your password you can do so easily from your Account Settings page."

Sounds like not a big deal, to me. However, they're selling Jimi's Marshall head that he played at Woodstock...for $350G. That sounds like a big deal, to me.

Yes and no. I got the email, but it didn't say that their security system had been compromised, just that user contact info "was publicly accessible for a short period of time". Sounds to me like they had a systems error of their own doing, not that they were hacked.

Neither is good, but if I'm correct, this is less damaging for us than a hack. I've been involved in drafting "we've been hacked and your data may be out there" communications, and to me, this just doesn't look like what a hacked company would want to send out.

Thank you for your replies. Guess I'm just being paranoid.

Nah, not paranoid. Whether they got hacked or their own IT dept screwed up, it's still not good for us. Just different degrees of bad.

It’s probably not a big deal, but I was worried about this kind of data breach when I decided I was not going to provide my bank account information in order to sell on Reverb.com.

Typically these days, this thing falls under the heading of “an abundance of caution.” I also got the email, and I have gotten similar from other sites in the past. As long as nothing looks scammy (it doesn’t), I just see it as a reminder to change my (much too easily figured out) password.

I got it too. I deleted all the cc info. If something moves me enough, I can put a card back on. I’ve had it with careless companies.

I got the email too. Abundance of caution. That usually means someone above my pay grade f'd up Again.

Well, good thing I only use one password; the word password. Its fairly easy to change everything to password2. Out of an abundance of caution of course.

If a hacker gets into my reverb acct and buys gear under my name that gets shipped to my house, but they pay for it since reverb doesn't have any of my payment info, how is that a bad thing?

    Asking for a friend.

Wait, my wife might find out I bought all that gear?

Yes, I did exactly this. Fortunately the old cc they had was already cancelled. I didn't replace it with a new one.

If you are the seller, you have to link your bank account to Reverb due the return and liability policy. In that case the data leak is not that good news. However kudos to Reverb that they informed all of us and let us change our passwords. It takes courage to admit there was a mistake and remind users to take an action to mitigate the issue.
