It is time to take on another guitar influence!

Wondering if you could please point me in the direction of Roy Buchanan? Is there any certain stand out staple tunes or albums I should head to first ? Looking at learning what I can from him..

Didn't want to make the same mistake I did as a teenager with ACDC by going straight to "Fly On The Wall" haha!

    Thanks

Roy did a beautiful job on Sweet Dreams. Any version out there is worth hearing. Buch and the Snakestretchers is my favorite album of his and Sweet Dreams is on it. There was a documentary made about the greatest unknown guitar player that is also worth seeing and he plays a great version of Misty in the documentary.

I believe the documentary was a PBS filmed one. You-Tube has it... it is amazing... Just search Roy Buchanan on U-Tube.. You will find it,,, and other good stuff.

I would rate Roy Buchanan (1972), Second Album (1973), and Live Stock (1975) as his best albums. They’re all on Polydor.

My first exposure to Roy Buchanan was when the album Loading Zone came out. It changed me.

One of my all-time favourites. Roy Buchanan, Second Album, A Street Called Straight and Live Stock are all incredible. There's a track on Live Stock called Hot Cha that starts out with the sweetest neck pickup Tele tone I've ever heard before he kicks it down to the bridge around 1:14.

His later albums and tones don't get a ton of love but I still like them. His crystal clear playing on These Arms of Mine complements Kanika Kress' vocals perfectly.

I've never seen Roy play slide but this one sounds like it. But then again, a lot of his stuff did

Great player. As far as albums to check out - his first solo album, the second album, and That's What I'm Here For, are good listens.

He also put out a couple of solid live albums too - "Live Stock" and "Live in Japan."

There's a great version of "Soul Dressing" on "Live in Japan," but why pass up actually watching him play.

If you like, there is a book out that has some songs in tablature. FWIW.

I have the book. I would recommend it but be forewarned you better be a damned good player to get anywhere near him.

One of my favorite Roy solos. That tone is like a diamond glass cutter--yessir!

Roy told a journalist once that he almost never changed his strings unless one would break.

Brer Rabbit and Tar Baby by Roy is one of my favorites. Would love for someone to give a lesson or share tabs.
