There's a commercial that comes on the sports and weather channels I watch saying that Round Up (the lawn spray weed killer) has been proven to cause cancer.

At the same time you see a commercial by the makers of Round Up telling you to buy the product to use this spring.

Are they just trying to sell what they have left?

Monsanto just wrote a massive court-ordered check. Do not listen to the marketing. I get one drop of it on my skin & then taste it in the back of my mouth within a couple minutes. It absorbs into skin in record time.

Bruce Ames, a biological scientist at UC Berkeley, developed a test for mutagenic chemicals in the 1970’s. He tested mutagenic chemicals on bacteria and was unable to find a threshold below which no mutations arose for chemicals that produced mutations at all. Almost all mutagens are highly likely to also be carcinogens. That said, who is more likely to develop lung cancer, a two pack a day smoker or someone who tried a cigarette once in their youth? Personally, I’ll pull weeds by hand, but an agricultural worker is at far greater risk than a home gardener.

It's their subtle way of helping the guitar industry. More money in lawyers' hands means more sales of Gibson, PRS and Custom Shop Fenders.

Convincing a jury that you harmed somebody is a lot different than actually having a scientific basis for the underlying claim.

Remember that water is deadly in sufficient quantities as well.

Bayer and Monsanto. Glyphosate is some nasty stuff, coming to you from the people that brought you DDT, Agent Orange, and GMO seeds. They are in the business of death, and business is good.

I'm all for commerce and big business, but Monsanto has poisoned this planet from stem to stern and if it were up to me, they would be out of business tomorrow.

I am part of big business, and I'm with you. At some point you have to draw the line.

    Stay away from it.
It is deadly. I’m no tree hugger, ok maybe a little, but that doesn’t change the fact that this product is deadly to humans.
If you do use it for some reason, use every available precaution.

There is a line of thinking that litigation is a business risk analysis. IMO, too many lives have been lost and too much damage to the planet has occurred with this line of thinking. I've just copied a few links regarding Monsanto. I'm not trying to impose my conclusions on anyone; please reach your own. Over the years, there are dozens of headlines like this, for Monsanto alone - or I guess I should say Bayer, as Monsanto is now a part of that global conglomerate.

Back in the day I mixed it into thousands of gallons of water working on my family's farm. I've been drenched in it many a time due to spills, and needing to clean out sprayer heads.

That always happened to me with the CLP we used to clean weapons in the Army. I just tried not to think about it too much.:)

Many of my farmer friends, too. And most here won't know that the stuff you used on the farm was in concentrations an order of magnitude stronger than what we buy at the store for our driveway weeds.
