i called the people that sell these rattle bombs about a month ago. they are polyurethane and they are the ultra mini flakes .004.

they sell the matching base coat as well as the clearcoats. so if you go with rattle bombs, you can buy everything you need.

i've tried .004 flakes and they are sparkly, but not like a standard size flake (.015).

after 3 standard size flake jobs on my teles, i decided to go ultra mini and mini (.004 and .008) and after i cleared it, i wasnt happy. just not enough bling for me.

guess i'm spoiled with the bigger flakes.

in fact, i just ordered some monster silver flakes (.020) for a gretsch duojet that i'm going to spray the top so i can have my own sparkle jet.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be a HUGE flake, but that's ok, just something that has a little sparkle and flash. I'm guessing the base is somewhat metallic and the flake is a clear with small flakes in it to supplement the metallic basecoat?

When I got the guitar it was bubble gum pink and had some imperfections. and a few chips revealed ugly grey automotive primer underneath. I wanted it to still have a pink hue but be a bit more "correct" so I finished it in RR Burgandy Mist. I didn't like it at all; it was much darker than tha mauve tone I expected. I think this new hot pink sparkle will do the trick!

Why pink, you ask? Someday this will be my daughter's....

What about one of these with HOK paint?

In any case, the Mustang body and neck are hanging in my garage, already in white primer (headstock face on the neck) along with my dryin/curing Tele body for my BFG build....looks like a guitar factory out there, lol

Expecting the flake products to show up some time this week....

Got it today and sprayed two coats of base on the body....so far so good! It covers well and is a nice muave metallic color. It's actually the color I had in mind when I first made an attempt at spraying Burgandy Mist!

Still gotta re-primer my headstock face so I can get some base laid down on that as well. I'll get some pics taken before I spray the flake so we can get a nice before/after combo....

I ordered one of each. I don't know about the flake yet, I'll spray it today. However, the base covers EXTREMELY well. the body and headstock face are completely covered....about four coats each and I still have a little paint left over that my wife will likely hijack for some kind of crafts or scrapbooking because she's loving the color too.

I'll get some pics this afternoon in the sunlight before I spray the flake but if I had to, I think the base alone (with a clearcoat of course) would look great. I'm thinking that the flake coat is just gonna add some nice iridescence and sparkle to an already cool color.

Anyway, based on my experience so far, Roth Rattle Bomb IS the bomb and I plan on using it again on a future build.

Patience:rolleyes:

I'll be at work for six more hours but I promise to go out in the sun and take a few pics as soon as I get home before I spray the flake....

I'm already thinking about fixing up an old pedal car and using this stuff, building a little gasser....

A lot closer than RR Burgandy Mist, at least in my experience. The RR was a LOT darker than I thought it would be and this is a nice mauve that looks purpleish in low light with nice light pink depending on the viewing angle. Perhaps if you put it next to an ACTUAL BM Fender it might be WAY off, but to me it looks like what I think BM should look like, if that makes any sense....

RR BM did NOT turn out like this for me but it's not a stretch to say the Roth Fuscia base is similar: (link removed)

Looks similar to this in low light, again depending on the angle: http://www.flickr.com/photos/56186852@N00/4104317705/

Hoping the flake brings out a nice bubble gum pink glow....
