I see Ron is selling building guides on his site. Does anyone have any experience with these? Good descriptions and images? Holds your hand?

    Appreciate it

I do not know Mr. Kirn personally and do not own his guitars.
But I do know that he is always eager and willing to help others on this forum with free advice.
From what I've read, he is a stand up guy.
I'd highly recommend doing business with him based on everything I've seen and read here on this forum.

    They are good.

They are printed on regular 8.5" x 11" "copier" paper which is then folded and stapled. The printing looks like it was done on inkjet (or color laserjet) so don't expect beautiful glossies, but the drawings are good and the photos clear. The "Homespun Telecaster" contains 50 pages of information.

Sometimes I feel that Ron's writing style is pitched mostly at adolescents, but the information in the pamphlet is very good indeed, with lots of very useful hints and tips. If you are putting a Tele (or a Strat) together for the first time, I'd say his building guide is indispensable.

Ron has an extremely detailed Stratocaster building tutorial on his website.

Holy crap............. I just quickly scanned through all seven pages of that Stratocaster building tutorial. If there's anythiing he hasn't covered about building an electric guitar, you don't need to kow it.

    The templates look great.....
Just a question, any reason why the neck pocket template isn't incorporated into
the Tele template like on the Strat template?

So did I, again. Absolutely remarkable. Makes my work look pathetic, though.

Not sure I understand your question. Here are pictures of both the Strat and Tele templates. Each has a separate neck pocket template. Separate from the body outline template. You cannot have the neck pocket template as part of the body outline template. If you did, you'd be screwing your neck into thin air.

I did 'em to expedite the process..... This way, there’s no taking ‘em off and putting them back on….

WOW! That is something, the attention to detail is fantastic, I love that Strat! That's an interesting set-up on the tremolo as well, might have to try that on one of mine.

I got my telecaster templates from Ron Kirn.Included with them was two booklets with
great info that made my first build much more easier and prevented me from making stupid mistakes.
    Thanks Ron!
And I still got ten fingers left to play with!!

:)....Wonder if anyone ever did that mistake? What I meant was, that
on the Strat you could align the template with the body when doing
the neck pocket rout, seems easier to me. Like the template Preeb uses,

How do you align the rectangular neck pocket template on the Tele correct?
Never worked with these types of templates.....

Ah ........... I see what you mean now. Not having the Ron Kirn templates, I don't know how you are suppose to align that neck pocket template. Maybe he or someone who has them can explain. I made my neck pocket template similar to the picture you show there using my body outline template to make part of the neck pocket template.

The bridge holes that the neck template pins go into would offer quite a lot of alignment (hopefully!) - the cutaway side of the neck rout hole should be flush with the edge before you clamp and rout.

That's how I do it - is that right, Ron?

once the outside periphery is routed, I rout the pickup then electronics cavity. Then I drill the neck bolt holes and the bridge and string through holes.

I remove the top template, then rout the remaining lip from the periphery … see this thread around post #29

    http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-home-depot/88209-building-guitar-hummmm.html

Once that is done, I align the neck pocket template and place two pins through the template registration holes that align with the outside two of the six string through holes…. Align the neck pocket end with the body’s heel, clamp securely and rout away,,,
