My guitar teacher has an 80W one, and I play through it for my lessons. It sounds great.

But he got it hoping it would be his gigging amp, and he found although the tones are very good, it just didn't have the headroom he needed for his loud very clean jazz sound.

Headroom isn't really what it's designed for in stock form. If he put the Sparkle Clean in it, I suspect it would work great. Mine arrived, and the Tour (which admittedly has 20 more watts - and I'm using a very efficient speaker) has enormous amounts of headroom with it installed.

The footswitch for the Hot needs to be a dual latching type with a TRS cable or a pair of singles and a splitter cable. The Boss FS-6 would be ideal (but is expensive); a Hosa FSC-385 and a 1/4" TRS-TRS cable would get you there for under $30.

Picked up a Mint BCA 212, with the foot switch, for 700 on Reverb. Given that it lists for 1350 + 150 for the FS new, I think I got a pretty good deal. I'll let you guys know how it turns out when she gets here! :)

Absolutely. Seems Fender thought so, too, having seemingly appropriated the idea for the Tonemaster amp.

Be great if Roland did a BC MK2 w/IR's, XLR stereo outs etc but I doubt it'll happen.

I just found an even better deal on a mint Tour, so...I got it. I'll sell some other things. I have some ideas about using the Ultimate Blues with a Sparkle Clean or the stock voicing in stereo. And I also just really like these amps.

Well, my BCA is in for repair. Twice over the last 10 days it just shut down after about an hour of playing. Doesn’t seem to happen in short playing sessions. There’s an authorized Boss/Roland repair shop nearby so that’s good (though the amp is long out of warranty). Wish me luck!

I had one issue - power cable socket literally collapsed. Once fixed it's been rock-solid.

I do wonder if we'll ever see a version 2. Most likely, it'll be Katana / Nextone I guess

Be sure to let us know how it goes! I'm curious to hear if the local shop can fix it themselves (in past cases, Roland required the amp be sent back to the factory)

    Good luck on the repair.
    I hope it's minor.
    Let us know.

I watched Premier Guitar rig rundown with Mike Stern. For that gig he was using twin twins (wow!). But he said he loved the Blues Cubes. Then I started watching a performance on Paste studios YouTube channel and, sure enough, he’s using Blues Cubes.

Not sure if this has been posted in the thread yet, but this is an excellent demo of the BCA. Not a gushing review, but an honest demo.

I’m late replying to your post, but if can find an Ultimate Blues Tone Capsule, it adds quite a bit of headroom to the clean channel. I found one on reverb quite a while back for $80. The Sparkle Clean capsule might do the same, but I haven’t personally tried one of those.

Yes! Both the Ultimate Blues or Sparkle Clean gives more headroom. Stock, the amp, both channels, is voiced like a Fender Tweed Basmann. Even the Eric Johnson tone capsule has a brilliantly clean channel:

The Sparkle clean, to me, has quite a 'hard' quality - like a Marshall. So, good for cutting through but not, perhaps, for a jazz context, say.

It does also change the way the amp takes pedals. It's more unforgiving.

Yes, there is more headroom, but it's not 'jc120' clean.

I suspect the UB would be the one for me. But they rarely turn up used.
