i would go back to the beginning of cow-punk, and check out the catalog of Jason and the Nashville Scorchers. not necessarily Rock-a-billy, but definitely a train-wreck of punk and roots. not sure if you guys are looking for covers, or original material, but the vibe of these guys is rippin and your punk rock buddy will approve.

Hank III would be a good place to look as well.

I'm jealous! i wish you guys luck. 20 years ago had a band that was in this vein, i miss it alot! i played pretty clean tone (still do, lol), just a little OD, and mixed in a little slap-back or trem when called for.

Check out the Belmont Playboys. Also maybe Johnny Bach and the Moonshine Boozers.

Saw them live some years back. Crazy!

Here's one of my very fave trad rockabilly bands, that were more current (they are done now, too). Somehow, you just never hear of these guys. Here's "Go Cat Go"

A good friend of mine, Paul Pigat has an alter ego named Cousin Harley. He's worth checking out in that style and many others. He's also a great Tele picker.

For a punk rockabilly crossover, check out The Meteors from the UK.

Big +1 on the Wild Records stuff. I posted a couple from their catalog before reading through, but you're picking up what I'm puttin' down...
